Analog or digital ?

So i'm spamming a bit today (posted this in another thread but thought it deserved a thread of it's own).
In the folder you have 2 mp3s. One is of a synth that is about as analog as you can get. Digital envelopes IIRC but VCOs, analog filters,VCAs and whatnots.
The other one is 100% digital. It's a VSTi.
The funny things is,it's not even an emulation of the first one as far as i know but it's so close it's not even funny. The really amazing part is,the first one was posted as an example of how good the analog is and the creator of the VSTi recreated it by ear. He had only the soundfile to go by.
So which one is which ? Which one has that analog depth that only analog can do and which one is the sterile VSTi ?
I choose, for now,not to reveal what synths are involved because it's irrelevant but make no mistake. The analog one is highly sought after and about as analog as analog goes.

I think the second one must be digital because HP goes fully up, it has a cleaner Res sound, and faster Envelopes.

I would guess the first one is analog. But it's difficult to tell because the soundfile is a mess, crackly etc.
The second one sounds like Minimonsta.
But like you say, it's irrelevant really.

Weird. Sounds fine here. Maybe it's a bandwitdh problem or did you download them ?tehlord wrote:I would guess the first one is analog. But it's difficult to tell because the soundfile is a mess, crackly etc.
That is the whole point of this thread.tehlord wrote:But like you say, it's irrelevant really.
And no,it isn't MiniMonsta.

First one sounds much better and is probably analog..

Just hit play. But only the first one crackles....hey.....just like analog sometimes!jupiter8 wrote:Weird. Sounds fine here. Digital envelopes...about as analog as analog get's?The analog one is highly sought after and about as analog as analog goes.
I mean to go more analog you could say have analog envelopes?
Or go one further and have a true Olde analog that has no intergrated chips i.e Andromeda and just be good old electronics like say the old modulars

That's why i said about. I had no say in which synths were part in this. It's just two random files i ripped from another thread on another forum.WMP wrote:Digital envelopes...about as analog as analog get's?The analog one is highly sought after and about as analog as analog goes.

And the Andromeda has ICs. Plenty of them specially made for the Andromeda.
EDIT: Funny how some of you are so sure which is which. To me they sounds pretty much identical. It could be the same synth as far as i'm concerned. And maaybe it is.

Would be better to have ike for like i.e the
Pro-1 vs the Emulation
Minimoog vs Minimonsta
FM8 loading the same prest as the DX7
Oddity vs the Odyssey
CS-80 vs Auturia CS-80
The files you posted seem like they come from a very modern sounding analog. I personaly am not that hot on the more mordern ones as I think they sound like virtual synths. Andromeda, Prophet 8, Evolver etc...
I'd be happy enough to post examples of the pro-1, Odyssey or CS-30 (which is basically a monophonic CS-80...same oscilators and filters with ring mod etc)
We could do it so that the key C is played on octaves 1 to 7 against the emulations on the same settings (set visually and by ear).
now that's a test I'd be up for.
As for your examples, I don't like the oscilators very much... they sound weak. I like the filter on the second mp3 could be digital or analog but sounds nice, but the snappy envelopes sound digital on mp3 2. Neither of the oscilators have much meat and sound like they come from a modern poly for sure. Not my idea of a meaty analog.

If the first file is a plugin (without additional analog processing) I'll buy it right away. Sounds great.
And I second the notion about analog/digital envelopes.

The first ones starts off sounding like a Juno 106. The second ones hi pass filter sounds nice but sounds a bit digital.
I still don't think the oscilators have much balls to them. I reckon it's a juno 106.
I think that mp3 1 is analog and mp3 2 is digital. It's the bass end sounds a bit too flabby.
Yep that's my decision.... Mp3 1 Juno 106 and Mp3 2 virtual.
