Augustus Remote control and OSC

How can I midi remote Augustus?
I've placed the midi.lua in the right place but can't remote control Augustus yet. I've red the manual and need to set up the right ports to control it (OSC). What is the story behind this? Where do I setup the ports in OSX? Do I need a special OSC application? Or do I have to use lua scripts?

You seem to be asking two questions. Are you wanting to use MIDI or OSC?

I want to control it with an external midi controller and I thought it had someting to do with a OSC setup. I've installed the midi.lua in the right folder and don't know what to do next to get it to work.

No, you don't need to worry about OSC at all if all you want to do is control it by MIDI. You don't need to do anything with midi.lua either, if you just want to use the default MIDI control mapping (as in the manual).
All you need to do is route the incoming MIDI to the plug-in. How you do that will depend on what host application you're running.

Well, I'm already cotrolling AL with a cubase 4 remote control setting i've made (in this case I used channel 8 for all cc messages). And I can't figure out how to set up the nrpn messages for controlling the sliders
I don't understand the use of the cc/nrpn table from the manual when you in fact could use any cc number you like.
What does the manual mean with:
"There is a preference setting in the 'Prefs' dialog that controls whether Augustus Loop responds to MIDI events on all channels, or just on channels 1&2.
In the latter case, the plug-in responds to MIDI controller messages on channel 1 (see table below) and to note on messages (to alter the pitch setting) on channel 2. This can make it more convenient to play a soft-synth and control Augustus Loop from the same keyboard..."

I don't have Cubase myself, so I could be misunderstanding your post, but it sounds like you're confusing Cubase's own parameter automation/remote control with Augustus Loop's.
To use the CC/NRPN control as per the AL manual you have to send MIDI directly from your controller (which is what, by the way?) to the plug-in. This will probably involve setting up a MIDI track and setting up the routing to the plug-in in Cubase. Not using any of Cubase's built-in remote control stuff.

First of all, thanks for your patience...
There is a missing link for me. Where do I tell my controller (BCR2000) to just control AL? Setting the midi prefs of AL won't do the job. (When I config my controller according to the CC list from the manual nothing happens.) Is there a set up in the operating system (OSX) or in Cubase I should do?
Till now the only way for me to control any plugin is to make a remote control map in Cubase, in which a parameter from the controller is linked to a particular plugin parameter (transmit/receive). But again, maybe I'm missing the point.

Think of how you'd set up a MIDI keyboard to control a VSTi soft synth - you set your keyboard to send the right events (note on/off messages on the right channel) and you route those events to the synth plug-in.
It's exactly the same idea with Augustus Loop. Configure the BCR to send the right CC/NRPN messages and route those to the MIDI input of the plug-in.

This is my final post about this subject.
Yes, I know how to set-up the midi in/output of a vsti midi channel.
No, I can't find any midi set-up in the fx channel like in the midi channel. Must be a Cubase restriction?
Thanks for your help.

From this thread:

it seems that it must be possible to route MIDI to an effect plug-in in Cubase.

Yes, that works for a bit. Thanks for the tip. The only thing is that AL only receives Midi messages but doesn't transmit to the controller. The other thing is, when receiving midi in AL only the values change, not the knobs and sliders.
At this point setting up a remote template in Cubase for AL works much nicer. But I stll have to figure out what the nrpn settings should be on the bcr (and in the remote template).
