Im trying to do some midi routing in order to create a rack with several instruments stacked and want to create some splits and velocity layers in special with crossfading between zones and layers so I can create a complex and expressive instrument. That type of layering is present in many multitimbral synths.
Keyboard splits: I see the specific tools to do that, but I dont see how to do a crossfading between zones. Its there a way or a tool to do that?
Velocity layers: I dont see an specific setting to do that (like the one to make splits), so I tried with the "midi filters" tool. there I dont see also a tool specific for this pourpose. There is the velocity curve which is cool and I suposse can be used to do some type of velocity range, but how I can do a velocity crossfade? its there some way to do it?
Maybe there are some docs or videos which explain how to use the midi filter tool to make those type of layering?
Question about midi filters

There is a image from the Roland xv2020 editor where it shows 4 key and velocity ranges and the crossfading:

Something like that is what I want to do. Im years searching for this type of tool in any softsynt or host to be able to create complex instruments. I hope Cantabile can do something like that. If in a future that can be done in a graphical way like this image, then that would be awesome.
No one would like to have that to create their instruments setups?

Some of what you desire seems to be possible - but needs some planed configurations...
In midi filters you find several advanced tools
"Velocity Gate" can be used to stack different sounds. However I think there is no fade.
"Pitch velocity ramp" can be used to fade between splits - however you need to overlap the splits.
It's a bit tedious to set up but possible. Is there any other host that can do even that? Cantabile is still a host and no synth engine...

I have tried with those tools but I cant do what I want. I will try it more time to see. Anyway those Cantabile midi tools seems to be a bit convoluted and confusing. Just see the image posted, that can be done really easy for the user.
Yes, Cantabile (or any other live host) is not a synth, but that dont mean that it cant be done. One of the main pourposes of those live hosts is to create combinations of synths and prepare a setup with them to play live with it, right?.
In this situation who would not need to create several key and velocity zones? Im sure with the right programming, a tool capable of that in a easy way (if graphical much better)would be very useful. There is not any host which can do it (AFAIK), and thats something that I dont understand.

First note that I am not the developer of cantabile... I just try to help a bit.
The midi filters is a technical approach in cantabile but provides you a lot of flexibility. I haven't seen any other host that does what a synth editor like your example shows does...
Yes - this is not as simple as some predefined sliders - but that's somehow the price you pay for this flexibility...
You need a strategy to set up what you want. I just think the velocity x-fade is not possible in cantabile.
Just some ideas:
- Use a separate rack for each "tone"
- Use "range split" or "key range" for each tones zone - including the key fading ramps
- Use two "pitch velocity ramp" filters to get the fading start and end of a tone
- Use "velocity gate" in each rack to stack the tones in the velocity range you want
I think you can get very close to your imagination - but ok, it's a technical process.
