Look at the Prydz (Pianoo) thread at gearslutz, a lot of people there think it's all software. Thing is, those are usually the ones who want to believe that, and also haven't got much experience with the gear.

Why do I think it's gotten outboard treatment? Mainly because of the drums. The way the kickdrum punches, especially in conjuction with the rest. The absence of midrange harshness. The way it sticks all together. The clarity and punch despite the relentless limiting. My guess is that it's a mostly software production that got some hardware treatment at the (stem) mastering stage.

The other was made a year ago, with aid of my school's studio, with a protools rig, decent console, and mid-high shelf outboard gear (Neve 8803 EQ, SSL Xlogic Dynamics, some Dbx stuff, to name a few), and most of all, better experience. Both are "club/release" quality.

Can you tell which is which?

Inspiring stuff! Much less boring than the piano loop they keep talking about!

I would say 1 is done earlier, some annoying freqs in there. 2 is more polished but also a bit flatter. Both are from you pre-analogue-modeling-era.

I don't hear obvious hardware/outboard sound in the mixes, though they don't have the midrange harshness buildup you can get quickly with plugins. I like "Monsters" better, because the other one totally lacks punch (although it has a nicer overall quality). But that's a mixing issue primarily.
Bottom line is, with these mixes I cannot say. They might both be ITB for all I know.

This seems so self-serving I'm wondering if you actually read it before posting. Whatever your goals, I would avoid attempting to earn a living in marketing.
