Well, it's obvious once you know what to look out for. I put more effort into the oscillator comparison from last year (which was never resolved... nobody dared a bet...)

Well, it's obvious once you know what to look out for. I put more effort into the oscillator comparison from last year (which was never resolved... nobody dared a bet...)

What's the signal chain? What are the synths used? There are analogs that don't sound very analog (P08 for instance) after all.

Why do you need to know which analogue synths I used? It's no secret, I own a Doepfer rack with modules from Doepfer, Cwejman, Livewire and Analogue Systems, a Moog Little Phatty, a Wavestation EX, an Ensoniq sampler a bunch of Viruses and I have access to a Studio Electronics ATC-1, a JP-8080, various Korg Romplers and a Z1. I used to have access to a Matrix 12 for a while, but I have given it back to the owner.

As for software, I have everything, including D-Cam, timewARP and what not.

Signal chain would be Synth -> Neutrik cable -> FireFace800 -> Logic Studio -> Normalize or Plugin -> Logic Studio -> Normalize

No further treatment, no eq, no sample rate conversion, no nothing.

If you need different outboard gear to hear teh difference, I could get hold of Lavry ADCs, but I'm 100% certain that this won't be necessary.

Anyhow, you say you can easily hear the difference between analogue synths (and those I have are *definately* top notch modules in that respect), give it a go!

0 probably analog

8 analog, probably more recent one

16 digital, ITB

24 probably analog with DCOs (Novation Bass Station etc.)

32 Plugin

40 analog

48 Plugin

56 VA synth, probably hardware

1,04 Plugin

Nah, that is often been referred to, probably because of the stable oscillators. "Real Analogue Sound" is when the oscillators fall out of tune only by looking away from the tune knob for more than 3 seconds.

The signal chain I wanted to know because certain converters add quite a bit of irritating artefacts to the signal, the Fireface being one of them. But I agree it should suffice for the test.
