Funny you should say that. I've just been around a studio that has Logic and I tried out the clav and was very impressed!!ttoz wrote:i tried many sampled clavs over the years and evd6 just wins every time. no one has been able to come up with a better one in an open plugin format (evd is tied to logic)
Shame I can't buy it anywhere!!!

Yep - they really should have made it a VSTi (as if)ttoz wrote:i tried many sampled clavs over the years and evd6 just wins every time. no one has been able to come up with a better one in an open plugin format (evd is tied to logic)
Nothing really comes close but best of a less good bunch is probably AAS String Studio (I don't bother with samples for instruments like that)

Just wanna say thanks to dickiefunk for showing me the link to GSI ZD6, as I just bought it today. I never heard of it before you mentioned it here.dickiefunk wrote:Hi,
I'm pretty torn between which Clavinet vsti I should get?
I'm interested in GSI ZD6

and Elektrik Piano
Which has the most authentic Clavinet sound - ZD6 or Elektrik Piano?
Thanks
It is a great clavinet model. It's as good as the Garageband sample, I think.
Great product.

of course it is - you just need to set up a proper fx-chain...mellotronaut wrote:nonsenseKriminal wrote:ticky clav is great

Well I was using Ticky untill ZD6 came out of nowhere last year. It is a stunning imitation to say the least, and nothing else is to be expected from Guido. You might also take a look at his Key Performer. Nothing I've ever tried, but it sure sounds quite good from the youtube clips of it in action.

Do tell! No matter what I try I can't manage to get a decent sound and feel from it.jens wrote:of course it is - you just need to set up a proper fx-chain...mellotronaut wrote:nonsenseKriminal wrote:ticky clav is great
I always found Topaz Clav much more usable.

Ticky Clav is old but still damn Good if you ask me. It's rather basic compared to ZD6 but it still sounds good. I'm not saying it's at all better than ZD6. But it is probably the best freeware Clavinet Plugin. Actually I don't even think I know of any other free Clavinet Plugins other than Ticky Clav? If there are even any others out there probably pretty shitty? Because I'm sure I would of heard of them otherwise if they were actually decent. Also there are quite a few VA and FM Synths that can do excellent Clavinet emulations as well. Even know their not just solely "Clavinet" Plugins obviously.

Topaz Clav sounds very similar to the available free soundfonts, since it uses samples...
Ticky Clav can sound enormously funky - I think here the secret is in the envelope - Tick just got it right... but at the same time it tends to sound a bit cheesy, which is why I put distortion (usually an amp-sim, as has already been suggested - Annti's Saro is great here) after it, but also (before the amp-sim) some modulation, usually a phaser - and there is no funkier phaser-plugin than Annti's Phase90 - and then finally I compress it all properly...
...hth!
P.s.: of course you also need to play it properly

I dont mind the cheese though...

It may be. That aliasing noise* was a deal killer for me as far as spending ANY more time with it. IMO, it wasn't as good for my purposes - which do include ease of use - as the NI. I got exactly what I wanted really quick with that, assigning swell, drive and chorus via right click to the Kore knobs and painting the effect in in lanes. Quick work, musical result; whether you agree or not. Slow Djinn'd Anyone else? I'm confident with my own result as neither lifeless nor dry. I find your assertion a little silly, in fact. It smacks of "what I prefer beats what you prefer" more than any objective analysis, tbh. You're free to show the class how much more 'lifelike' your efforts are...DragonSagoth wrote:I really beg to differ here. Too clean organ, as you posted, sounds sterile and lifeless. Authentic IS what I'm looking for, but thanks for the mind read try. But, there's a line for me of what noises exist in real life you want to mock up in an arrangement and what is just silly. And a BIG FYI, in the real world back in the day, the producers and engineers were always at great pains to get rid of noise which detracts from the music. Rotor noise, or no, it sounds totally synthetic and like total crap aliasing.
And that rotor noise doesn't sound nowhere near to aliasing, really. And you can turn it on, if you're a purist. But that's disrespectful to the sound of a real Hammond.
For god's, sakes, Guido even modelled the CLICK when you switch from slow to fast Leslie!!!
Also, you CAN right-click on every parameter in VB3 to get to MIDI Learn. Seems to me like you haven't spent much time with it at all.
It's brilliant.
* As an old synth programmer, I know pretty durn well what aliasing sounds like, and that so-called rotor noise sounds close enough for rock 'n roll. I remember the rotor noise from Hammonds, having been in half a dozen bands which used one, and that ugly noise did not ring any bell of recognition for me...
I'm no purist, and purism interests me not at all, in any form.
It's purist-worthy and disrespects a real Hammond at the same time? Is that what you're saying?, cause that makes no sense. That effect is right, or it's not. I think not.
There are pheneomena which occur with *playing* an instrument such as the release character of the K3 E7 Clavinet, which is deep, that lead to the feeling you're really playing that instrument. A rotor noise is meaningless in this regard as far as I'm concerned. A click noise to switch to the fast leslie?, doesn't take me anywhere either really. It's fine if it works for you, great, happy for you, the sound wasn't all that to beat my other alternative, which was intuitive and ez to use. Total YMMV sitch.

I don't find VB3 hard to use. In fact, exactly the opposite, there are no tabs as on B4-II which are making things more complicated than necessary.
Also how come you're about the very few (if only) here that say VB3 is "not right"? That's an awful minority
