I recently started programming patches in Strobe (from DCAM Synth Squad) and most of them are "vintage" or "bread & butter" patches. If anyone wants to add patches to this thread he/she's welcome. Also "modern" patches are welcome.
BTW I started this new thread because the original Synth Squad thread was getting too long and confusing/unclear now.

:!: Many more patches could be found at the Synth Squad user forum on the FXpansion site: http://www.fxpansion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7572420
You must login for downloading patches there. If you are not logged in you don't even see the download link.

Here i added some links/replies from another thread:

UPDATE: New Strobe patch:

This new patch is quite flexible. You can use aftertouch for vibrato and the mod wheel for cutoff modulation. With the mod wheel in full position the patch changes completely. If you use the patch in lower octaves you could use it as a bass sound.
The patch uses the "Stack" function of Strobe for "simulating" 3 OSCs, basically this is a hypersaw/supersaw effect.

I added the 9 Strobe patches to the KVR database:
http://www.kvraudio.com/banks.php?s=lis ... order=date

Sooner or later i'll delete all single patches which i published above. Only the collection will stay.

UPDATE: all single files are deleted and substituted with the 9 patches collection.

Ingonator wrote: I tried to emulate the Lead sound from Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" in Strobe. Here is my first try, tips for optimizations are welcome:

1.) http://rapidshare.com/files/279437676/L ... 01__IW.zip

In this patch the aftertouch adds vibrato. The Modwheel increases the cutoff and adds a Saw Sub-Osc.

2.) http://rapidshare.com/files/279453480/L ... 01__IW.zip

This patch is like the one above but it uses both aftertouch and the modwheel for vibrato.

3.) http://rapidshare.com/files/279456586/L ... 02__IW.zip
Slightly modified version of 2.). The amount of the filter envelope cutoff mod is increased.

4.) http://rapidshare.com/files/279469369/L ... 03__IW.zip
A "smooth" version" of patch 2.)

5.) a collection of all 4 patches above:

UPDATE: replaced by a new 6 patches collection. Please look at my following post below.

Just for comparison.
For my feeling the original sound is closest somewhere between 2.) and 4.) so maybe i'll do further optimizations.

PS: Don't let Strobe fool you that it lacks oscillators. Just use the "Stack" function (with "Detune") and/or Sub-Osc's.

Ingonator wrote: BTW i discovered that the original sound from 1975 is much "smoother" than in the newer versions so i guess the different patches cover that quite good.

UPDATE: I listened again to the 1994 version ("Pulse" Live concert) of the patch. IMO this version fits best (some changes from the older patches):
http://rapidshare.com/files/279521582/L ... 94__IW.zip

This patch fits also very good to the lead sound at the beginning of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond part 2" from 1975.

This one is a "smoother" version of that patch which fits better to the 1975 original version (Part 1): http://rapidshare.com/files/279521708/L ... ss__IW.zip

All 6 patches:
http://rapidshare.com/files/279522979/I ... atches.zip

The 6 patches sound quite different so i guess it's no problem in having different versions.
:!: UPDATE 29.9.2009: The links above are deleted. Please download the updated/fixed patches collection here:

Any chance of an mp3?

From which patches?

No, so far no MP3's are planned but maybe later. On the other side it could be more useful to publish files of the patches itself than just MP3 demos... :)

:!: UPDATE:

1.) I made a polyphonic sound from the Shine On Brass lead:
DELETED. Please load here: http://rapidshare.com/files/285965274/I ... 8.9.09.zip

2.) I recreated the Polymoog "Vox Humana" patch from Gary Numans "Cars". This is based on a patch for OP-X Pro:
DELETED. Please load here: http://rapidshare.com/files/285965274/I ... 8.9.09.zip

The patch uses the "Stack" function with 5 voices which creates a "supersaw" sound. It sounds better with some Chorus and/or Reverb added. I use Kjaerhus Audio Classic Chorus and Classic Reverb (free effects !!).

3.) All of my 18 Strobe patches in one zip file:
DELETED. Please load here: http://rapidshare.com/files/285965274/I ... 8.9.09.zip

4.) i added the 18 patches from 3.) to the KVR database:

No, and i will not do it. They fit very well together, especially because Synth Squad could not do any wavetable patches. Another thing is that my Largo Brass patches sound "fatter" than my corresponding Strobe patch which is not obvious if you think about Strobe's "analog" sound quality. In a mix Largo mostly cuts through so i have to adjust the volume carefully.

Basically those are the only two synths i use at the moment, besides the Synthmaster 2 beta version and some Sylenth1 patches.

Have you tried doing those brass patches in Cypher yet, Ingo ?

Not so far but i have a feeling that with some settings they will also sound fatter in Strobe. At the moment i try to find out what Strobe is able to do and after that i'll try Cypher. First thing i'll try then is to reproduce a Strobe patch and look if it sounds different.
Strobe has that "Stack" function which produces a kind of "supersaw" effect. Combined with the Sub-Oscs this is quite unique and different from Cypher since Cypher has "normal" oscillators (with several FM routings). IMO using the Stack function sounds much better than using unison.
For vintage patches Cypher will be important if you need different waveforms in the 3 oscillators which is not possible with Strobe (besides using a Sub-Osc).

UPDATE: I tried to recreate a Synth Brass patch from Strobe to Cypher. It sounds different but for my feeling not really better. I guess the filters are different so i'll have to change some filter settings. For my ears Strobe's detuned "stacked" oscillators sound richer than Cyphers detuned "real" oscillators.

Here is a MP3 demo for my Polymoog "Vox Humania" patch (lead sound). It's Gary Numans "Cars" which i found as a midi-file in the net. All synths are from Strobe, drums are Cypher so all parts are Synth Squad. Like already mentioned the main lead sound is my "PD Vox Humana 1 IW" patch and also a second lead sound ("LD 3 OSC Saw Lead 01 IW") is from me, the others are factory patches or patches from the user database.
As an FX For the "Vox Humania" patch i used the free "Classic Chorus" from Kjaerhus Audio.
