Maybe it's the resolution then; mine is set to 1440x900 so it looks miniaturized.

Listening to the clips i think 1 is venom and 2 is the 303 sample at the beginning. I recognize the resonance. Both sound very good but it is hard to tell which one is which in some parts but one sounds a bit harsher overall and i'm guessing that's venom. You're going to tell me it's the 303 aren't you.

For the difference in price i'll take venom, i saw a 303 on ebay the other day for £1,250.

it IS miniature, but it also IS readable ;]

Left channel is Venom, Right channel is TB-303
btw, the TB-303 has a little bit more max resonance, this is small detail (have to increase one coefficient)

1250 Euro?! used unit, right?
holly crap!

is that an avarage price? (i have no clue of the others, haven't checked any sales since i have no money to spend, just want to have an idea of the usual avarage price of a relatively good unit)

btw, if you've got the money to buy one, i would encourage you to do so, no emulation will match the original (except for a x0xb0x, but not exactly 100%)
(erm.. that's if you want the TB-303 sound)
tho you can still do some pretty nice acid with some of the emulations (the decent ones)

also, if you buy one, you could record me some samples ;P~
and you'll have that wiiide smile on your face (muhahaha)

Yep used but with the devilfish mod. I think the prices have risen recently due to analog resurgence. Meh, i'd rather spend the money on something a but more versatile but then i don't have thousands to throw around.

I listened to a demo of the 303 in action and to me there wasn't enough of a difference to justify paying over £1,000. I'd rather get an xOx box or one of these http://www.future-retro.com/xsoverview.html

I like the 303 sounds but not enough to blow a wad of cash on it!

I found an image some time ago, it was from some music magazine ( 1986 ) and they sold brand new TB303's for £89 (postage included)...

EDIT: btw, i just changed the envelopes (again) this time calibrated more carefuly
currently, i'm tweaking the curve of the filter envelope
it's damn hard, even that it looks like the simplest exponential possible - it isn't ;]
also, because of this, i will change the minimum decay time to match the audio (it's more like 341ms and not 200ms as mentioned somewhere, they didn't look closely at the tail)
even that it's so long, the curve actually has a very very very sharp peak, just it decays gradually more and more after that, but because it's so sharp, it looks like it's very short.. it isn't ;]

now probably the System Requirements have to be changed a little
since i discovered the original TB-303 filter frequency can be pushed pretty high (up to 27-28KHz) then maybe the minimum sampling rate should be 88200Hz
tho it's still gonna work at 44100 (frequency is limited so it doesn't try to go over the Nyquist)

because of that i'm changing the envelopes since last time, i'll have to recalibrate/change the gimmick/accent circuit again
but this time, i will really try to do it more like an emulation, if i can.. (since, i suspect this way it'll also use LESS CPU!)

i also messed up FreeBee pattern import, got to rewrite it (export is working)

another thing i noticed, the folder where i save all my patterns whenever i make a "good" one when i work on the synth.. um, the folder is currently pretty big ;] (around 150 patterns of which probably 1/4 is pretty nice)
that's good, i'll include a lot of these with the next release, (probably both as sepparate .nsp files, and all of them in a single .nsm memory file for easier preview)

In 1986 my Dad bought a Kawai K1 and a Yamaha DX11

If he had bought a 303, 808 and 909 I would be happier today

first page updated..
FreeBee pattern import now works again, patterns smaller than 16steps now load correctly
today i tested the synth (with this new filter and everything)
i made a project in my DAW, with some extreme audiomation on the synth (most important knobs were automated)
i rendered the project at 44100 and 192000Hz sampling rate to see if it sounds different or not
i resampled the 44100 version to 192000 and compared both versions in my sound editor
the thing is exactly the same, the only difference is the 44100 version the filter stops at around Nyquist (this is normal) and the Osc are not in sync (this is because i added some analog "drift" and you CAN'T make the synth render something that looks the same twice)

i'm pretty happy of the results of this test
