Do you have to use the handles? I dont thing AA records this because its a 'floating' type process.

I wrote a script for just this thing that uses a very short amplitude envelope. It instead applies the envelope which can also be batched to each audio file (much quicker than trying to do it manually for each).

Its as good as removing DC offset in most samplers etc. Let me know if you want it and I will find it for you.

I dont seem to have the original one I wrote handy. I probably have it on my other laptop, will check later.

In the meantime I wrote this. Give it a try should also work.

Hey, thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow. Yes, I was using the handles, but I didn't know if there was another way to do it destructively. Will this apply a very short fade-in and save it then with the fade-in on the file?

Yea a really short envelope seems to do the trick for clicks at the start of the audio. Let me know if you need to change the amount of samples used and slope of the envelope. The process here is destructive and will save to file in Edit mode (save is manual ;)).

Oh and BTW I also have one for the end :D!

Hmmm, the end one may come in handy. Every so often a sample will cut off because of a gate, or because the sampling software used(if and when I use it) may have it's threshold set a bit off and I didn't know it. So the end fade would help to create a more natural fade.

Going to bed, but I'll definitely try this out tomorrow(er, today?).

Thanks again!

No worries!

The end envelope fix uses the same amount of samples as the start one. It is so short that you tend not to get a smooth fade out but more of a clickless one.

Anyway I will find original scripts I wrote for both later on a post them ;).

kkeys I can't put my hand on the originals right now. If you want please upload a short wav/aif clip of the offending audio and I will write a custom script for you.

I was looking for additional info on a possible update to AA and came across this thread. At this point I feel it isn't worth looking much further since I can't find anything to refute the last ominous speculation I came across. Seems Adobe is said to be content with the present release of Audition (3.01), as it works as solid as necessary for their largest market; broadcast. User's feedback expressing that the most widely used integrated functions work fine at this stage and they (Adobe) are not interested in competing with other DAW's in the popular areas of tracking and midi since AA has always been known and best as an editor first. Since they feel Audition 3.01 has reached a level of performance that is stable and has the flexibility to satisfy their largest market, further development is not a direction they plan to put additional resources into.

Of course, I don't know this to be true, the comment came from someone who supposedly has info from the inside. Adobe has always been secretive about new releases, which often go a couple years or more between new versions, so you never really knew where things stood. Maybe they feel coming out and saying any of this serves no positive purpose for them and since this is big news for some people (me certainly), someone who is privy to this saw no point in suppressing it. I've been looking around every so often for new info on AA because it seems well past due for at least some kind of update and that was the nature of one of the topics (if I can get back to where that was I'll post something to point to it). I'm hoping this is BS, but I guess v3.01 actually is running well overall (certainly straightened out much of the mess 2.0 became), so I suppose and new features would be more about keeping up with other DAW's, and AA never was a contender for rivaling other cutting edge DAW's. If anyone can flesh out any info to the contrary, I suppose it will be posted here or elsewhere (AA forums say nothing, or aren't ready to at this point). Perhaps it would prevent some from investing in AA 3.0 if they know there's no future after that. Hope this isn't true :-(

The area where I feel Audition 3 is particularly lacking is the CD burning page. This is way behind Sound Forge and Wavelab in terms of compiling CDs, PQ points, crossfading tracks, etc. And there's no DVD authoring including, which has been in Wavelab for a while now.

[obviously the whole MIDI sequencing thing is rubbish in Audition too, but as a Cubase user I'm not interested in that, and think it was a stupid diversion for them in the first place. YMMV]

Wavelab 7 could be a game-changer I think - with Mac support as well as PC it seems likely that a lot of music professionals will jump on it. With Sound Forge still looking like Windows 95, and with Adobe silent about their future interest in developing Audition further, I suspect that a lot of us PC folks will also be taking a close looks at Wavelab 7 when it is released this summer. I know that I will, and as a happy Steinberg customer with Cubase 5.1, there's a strong chance I will jump ship and switch to Wavelab unless we hear something from Adobe within the next few intervening months.

Of course I stumble across this thread moments after making a new one about this issue... D'oh!

Would be extremely sad if Adobe chose not to update Audition. I can somewhat understand how broadcast professionals are satisfied with the current program, but there's always a lot of stuff that can be improved, namely in other areas of the program. As it is, Audition's MIDI editing is rather sad; seems strange to add such a feature and then not bother keeping it bleeding-edge at all.

Post

Audition's MIDI is indeed pathetic, IMO. I use Audition daily as part of my job, and at home(I work in radio, where it's clearly the leader and standard). There are indeed things that could use improved. Unfortunately, many stations haven't even jumped to Audition 3 because 1.5 worked so well. I think V3 is superior in most every way to 1.5 though, and the improvements in V3 are huge for the little monotonous tasks.

I sure hope they don't abandon it, though I don't see any indication that they will or won't. It's just kind of sitting there. Sad really.

I was working on automation scripts for AA3. Some of the control names/ internal app params still have COOL_EDIT prefixes.

I then looked at the same controls etc in CEP and they even function exactly the same way (same API codes and all) :hihi:..

Looks like we've been duped. AA3 is nothing more than CEP with a few more features and veneer :dog: .

I'm still on 1.5, and I'd be interested in what major leaps forward have been made since then, putting to one side the MIDI/VSTi functionality (which I'm unlikely to ever use). Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great piece of software, I just didn't like the 'makeover' they gave it in version 2, and haven't seen anything since then to convince me to upgrade - and Optomadic's statement seems to back that up.
Pithy apothegm goeth here...
