If you mean whether it can play notes with the different length as 1/16 then the answer is yes.
-is there swing?
No, the swing is not there

No, I mean can it glide between notes. Like how a 303 sequencer has glide, or playing a mono synth in legato and overlapping notes. Can it glide from one note to the next?7Aliens wrote: -Does it allow for glides/ties in the arp?

It should do it. Test the demo for yourself.Echoes in the Attic wrote:No, I mean can it glide between notes. Like how a 303 sequencer has glide, or playing a mono synth in legato and overlapping notes. Can it glide from one note to the next?

No it can't do that because the thing to keep in mind is that Catanya only send midi data, (ie note on/note off = duration, note number )its the synth who will play the notes with its own legato/glide settings, if any.Echoes in the Attic wrote:No, I mean can it glide between notes. So if you use an instrument who plays the Catanya patterns/arpeggios wich have glide, then the glide will occur, else no glide. It doesnt have the same level of integration as a TeeBee for example, where the sequencer allows to input ties.
Hope this answers to the question.
Btw in the separate instruments of Peter's Vanguard Legacy bank, I used Catanya for many clips, including the Basses Clips. So here's some exemples of
Catanya in Action
What it (tries to) demonstrate is that Catanya can be used for more than classic arpeggios, you can use it for Bass Lines, Trance Gate chords style, aso. The rendering of midi were edited after in Cubase, as I edited the patterns of Catanya to make my owns.

That's a given. But what I remember from trying the demo is that you can make the separate notes overlap. So you should be able to do monophonic slides if the synth is set up for it. I don't have the demo anymore because of the key retrigger limitation, but if Echoes in the Attic wants to see if it does what he's looking for he can try it out with the demo.Lotuzia wrote:No it can't do that because the thing to keep in mind is that Catanya only send midi data,

setting overlapping notes is good enough for legato synths, so it doesn't really need a tie anyways, but swing is absolutely essential for any rhythm generator like arps and such. How else can you generally match the shuffle of a song? As long as there is 1/16th note swing, that's about 95% of what you'd ever need. But without it, you're very stuck to the grid which isn't good.
When/if this thing goes mac, I'd buy it the first second it had swing.

Right.
What you can do however is make a midi render of the output of Catanya ( I posted a tutorial of how to do that in Cubase with a single click somewhere in this post) and then you can apply any swing you want.
But I agree its definitely not the same than actually playing while hearing the swing in real time.
And a gate parameter for each step, or a custom lenght parameter for each step, if not each note by using mouse, would also be a great feature and open large new possibilities.
This + beeing able to save your custom patterns inside the database and to be able to chain them with a simple step sequencer system, and Catanya would be a very mature tool ( All this imho )
As it it was a big time saver for demos, and a lot of fun to use, but always imho it lacks a few musical and adaptative controls to make it usable in all kind of projects.

But it's possible to render output MIDI to the track and add a swing to the final MIDI track at your DAW, isn't it? For example Ableton Live has made a wonderful swing.Echoes in the Attic wrote:setting overlapping notes is good enough for legato synths, so it doesn't really need a tie anyways, but swing is absolutely essential for any rhythm generator like arps and such.
