One week to go! :)

... And a couple of questions I would appreciate some response to....

1. With the Halloween comp due to be launched, which synth? Gargoyle or EZ-Poly?

2. Looking at the healthy number of entries for this and the last comp, and the fact that most are coming in early, is 3 weeks too long?

I know Gargoyle and it's great, I also believe it'b be challenging indeed if you want something other than horror atmospheres, the other one I don't know...

I think it's OK, but I'd add some more days for the voting, it's hard to find the time to listen to all the tracks, and some more days would mean more chances to capture other casual voters who may also come back for the next osc's...

Having played with Gargoyle (not so much EZ-Poly, but I'm assuming it's a fairly conventional subtractive), I would go for EZ-Poly but stipulate that the track should have a horror or Halloween theme.

Cheers for the comments guys :) ... any more?

Hi Tattiemannie, as to what synth for the Halloween OSC - I like all of Krakli's creations, Gargoyle, EZ Poly, stringz, the s series, it's all good stuff. I'm, as usual, going with the flow on this one.

As to the 3 weeks I am all for that. My work schedule is odd at best - 60 hours a week to nothing at times. Right now it's balls to the wall and I,m sitting here drinking strong coffee trying to jolt my bones into action yet again - I love the 3 weeks.

Ah, what the hell. It's gotta be Gargoyle purely for the horror factor - it'll be a weird set of entries though... :hihi:

And 3 weeks is fine - the longer the better IMHO.

Cheers,
Mouxbar

OK, I'll turn it into an official question (with Tattiemannie's permission, of course - feel free to tell me to shut the f*** up, OK?):
Do you guys think the voting time should be longer? I ask especially considering the growing number of submissions - I, for one, would have a problem finding the time to listen to the tracks within a week, considering my irregular schedule...

Maybe that's the ticket, longer voting but an early entry shutdown?

It looks like Krakli Gargoyle is most likely going to be the synth; and that's fine by me.

I'll just throw a couple of others out there, not because they'd be great for the OSC, but because they're sort of Halloweenish in one way or another: Emily the Strange by Killapluggies, and 'Orange Lounge 2004' by Starrfish. They're both interesting, 'limited functionality' '70s cheap organ' type of synths.

I was thinking; since it is Halloween and all; how about allowing all of the Jark Dark VST effects?... oh and Pluggotic Necroloop; or how about any VST with a spooky name?

1. I'm for EZ Poly

2. Three weeks is good :)

PS. Halloween is going to be a little sad this year with out Lux Interior :(

Already happened :D The skinned version is JX-16 and as a Cubase user you should know what I'm talking about ;) As far as I know is also free (at first available only for Cubase users then made free for all, not 100% sure anyway), if I remember right I've spotted JX-16 in the "old gems from the past" thread. I have to check...

Max

EDIT: found it on the Steinberg FTP but this version only works on Cubase (FTP download)

:o But wait, are we sure we're talking about the same thing? This is a JX10, not 16...

Give me 5 minutes...

EDIT: yes JX-16 is the same as JX-10, If I'm right the only difference is the polyphony...

EDIT2: JX-16 presets sounds different from JX-10 besides the fact they share the same name, but I think the JX-16 patches are tweaked. If you reset both plugs to the init patch the sound is almost the same (btw I think there's something different in the filter or in the way the velocity influence the sound).
