Hi Folks,
with the advent of the 64bit Ti OS driver I've looked again into Cantabile Performers midi routing table feature.
- The "pass through" in a routing is quite confusing. From users point of view it is unnecessary - I can choose the same source multiple times in different routings...
- When I reorder midi routings via drag and drop "pass through" does not adjust, it still behaves in the order initially created.
[Edit]
- the fall through effect is even worse when midi routings are targeting a multitimbral VSTi...
I've tried to manage split/zones in the routing table... the unrouted events fall through and reach the rack too... covering the intended split... or is there a simple way clipping the "pass through"...?
With a mutlitimbral VSTi the racks split/zone is insufficient, only solution left is using the racks midi filters - a quite intransparent way to set up...
[Edit end]
"pass through" might be fine inside racks but in the midi routing table it is quite confusing, especially when one tries to enable/disable separate routings in subsessions.
The problem I see is that pass through depends on the line context it appears but IMHO the routing table entry should be free of such a context.
- it's nice to have bank/patch changes with routings but it's annoying to type numbers all the time... there are several instrument definition formats to specify names with bank/patch. Cakewalk, Steinberg and some other apps support this with their file formats... you'll also find such definitions for several synths and instruments on the net - so it's not necessarily about typing an own definition file...

Interesting point. To be honest I can't remember the exact scenario for putting this in. But you're right, the problem stems from the fact that the MIDI routing entries are greedy - ie: they steal the event once they match. If that was changed so the routing table as a whole was made greedy (ie: the event is stolen if it matches any/multiple entries), then the pass through wouldn't be necessary.
I'll think about this...

I've been thinking about this more and actually removed the pass through setting and it seemed to work OK. However - I'm very reluctant about releasing this in a minor build as it will affect existing setups - so I've reverted it for the moment.
(btw: new build is coming but it's been held up while I rebuild one of the servers involved in the official build process).

Thanks for looking into that.
I understand your hesitation to release this change.
Maybe it's not possible but maybe you can make this a start up option in the settings.ini, like activating the telnet server??
I apologize for that suggestion in advance, that's what users always come up with when they can't look inside a difficult topic - make it optionally...
