Concerning the Eurovision songcontest:
Best entry ever : 1980 Belgium ( ahead of their time ).
I think the total point they got were ZERO !
Enjoy.

Reminds me some Kraftwerk stuff...Belgian contestants for the Eurovision contest in 1980. This was completely new for the contest, as Telex were one of the founders of electro pop.

Yes, but a perfect example of the Eurosong spirit can be found here:

Nice! thanksMac of BIOnighT wrote:You're probably getting mixed up with another contest, the Eurosong thing is actually the festival of kitsch songs and singers - that's what makes it a huge lot of fun to watchabstractcats wrote: And I had not heard of the Eurosong Contest but I did see something about it on anther thread but it sounds like a great idea.I must say, though, it was much more so up to a few years ago, when every country's representatives sang in their own language songs written by composers from their own country; now, unfortunately, most everybody sings in English songs written by composers that are not necessarily "local". The result is songs that all sound the same (US/UK charts, that is), and that doesn't make much sense...
Anyway, now and then some truly good songs emerge from the contest.
Some years ago Italy partecipated with this song (begins at around 1 minute). I love the song and the girl has a beautiful voice - too bad the three minute limit imposed the contest forced them to present a shortened version of this track, plus the bad sound typical of this event![]()

ahh,I understand what your saying.I have to check this out.
That is a shame "international" songs seem to be sung mostly in English as there are so many interesting and beauty full languages around the world. But ironically people from non English speaking countries many time speak better English than people who's native language it is. I'm kind of oddity for Kentucky as my mother loves English and taught me to speak well and if I'm in a smaller town in Kentucky some time I'm asked if I'm from England or Scotland.
Have you been here, too, then?abstractcats wrote:Oh! I did come close to needing to learn Italian back in the 1990's when I dated a girl who's mother is from Italy and they would go to see here in laws about once a year in Italy.
Nah, I never did get to go to Italy, we were together for about a year, we talk marriage though but stuff happens and it didn't work out.
Sorry, don't know what it isabstractcats wrote:I should mention I am a Tiesto fan as well.![]()
Sorry, that should be DJ Tiesto http://www.tiesto.com/
abstractcats wrote:Any good Italian techno/dance/electro bands I should here??
Not my cup of tea, unfortunately, but there's an amazing ebm band I know who also release their stuff thru an American label, have a look and a listen

Nice! Thanks for the linksMaxSynths wrote:If you like old stuff my suggestion is for Datura & Usura, I used to be a fan of them when I was a teenabstractcats wrote:Any good Italian techno/dance/electro bands I should here??. Thanks for this question, gave the opportunity to come back in time. I think disco music was more interesting years ago and people like Datura and Usura has been pioneers of the modern techno/dance music. Back in time there was a lot interesting stuff, people used to work with samplers in a more creative way.
These was some of my favourites tunes
Datura - Eternity:
Datura + Usura - Infinity:
Datura - Yerba Del Diablo:
Datura - Angeli Domini:
Usura - Open your mind:
Control Unit - Ti Sei Bevuto Il Cervello (Digital Boy rmx):

Mac??)
EDIT: the most incredible thing is that Peroni, the one which wrote the "text", still takes royalties on this song!![]()
Molella - I feel confusion:
The Tamperer Featuring Maya - Feel It:
Gigi D'Agostino - The Riddle:
...and so on
Ok, end of the shit

I've uploaded my entry "Telemetry". In keeping with the spirit of the competition (or at least with my interpretation of the spirit of the competition) the only additional plugin used is the Kjaerhus Classic Limiter on the bus to optimise the levels and shave off some spurious peaks. What may appear to be delay effects on some parts were achieved by duplicating the midi tracks and shifting them. A couple of tracks feature automation of the filter cutoff.
I have to say it was great fun putting this track together, and although I have had Sputnik in my VSTi folder for a long time I'd over looked it until now. I was pleasantly surprised to find how versatile it really is.
Cheers,
Glyn

The nice thing about the osc is getting to really know the instruments that are chosen for the challenge to a degree none of us probably would under normal circumstancesglynbo wrote:although I have had Sputnik in my VSTi folder for a long time I'd over looked it until now. Yes, I agree. This is my first time, but I'm sure it's not going to be the last.Mac of BIOnighT wrote:The nice thing about the osc is getting to really know the instruments that are chosen for the challenge to a degree none of us probably would under normal circumstances

Very nice track, by the way, lighthearted and dreamy, I love itglynbo wrote: Yes, I agree. This is my first time, but I'm sure it's not going to be the last.
The other thing about the osc is that we are also forced to remember what a synth is - that is an instrument that can create a huge variety of sounds that only depend on the musician's ability to squeeze them out. Way too often do we just reach for the instrument that allows us to obtain a certain sound easily and quickly, as opposed to honing our ability to get any kind of sound from any synth (while, obviously, some instruments are better than others for certain sounds and there's nothing wrong with going for the fastest way to get a sound in norder not to break the creative flow).

Tattiemannie, I'm listening to the submissions, whatever you do, please allow for at least 5 votes, I could never decide for just one or three
Great tracks, really!
Question: does anybody know how to download all the tracks at once? If I do it one by one it'll take me a week

Anymore comments re. the voting system? I sense a leaning towards a 5 vote ( 10,5,3,2,1 points ) scenario.
Anyone wishing to catch up with the discussion may have to scroll back a couple of pages
Still time to sway the issue, otherwise, the above is what I'll go with.
Mac, as soon as all the tracks are in, I'll create a zip file with all the tracks in, and upload it to the folder ... thats what normally happens
If you hang on though, I'll post a playlist link .... that might be useful in the meantime.
