when they say make a song in the key of C major;
are all my basslines and synths supposed to start on the note C?
what if i use other notes?
would that turn it into some other scale?

Nopes, C is your root but you dont have to start your sequences with C, neither u have to end on it.
Basically, use the white notes in the piano and try to gravitate toward C with your melodies/chords...
Ahh, well its hard to explain, but i guess thats what years of musical education is for

Not always, but for now i suggest you DO start them on C if you're in the Key of C Maj
what if i use other notes?
Try em and see, No harm in trying just to have a listen? You might come up with something cool
would that turn it into some other scale?
Technically it would ...... you would be playing what is called a mode of C Maj
Prestissimo in Moto Perpetuo

Is music theory different for computer musicians than it is for bassoonists?djsharperimage wrote:What if i play using the B flat scale?

its pretty much the same;
except you dont really have to learn how to write notes down on a score or sheet music or whatever
