I feel like I posted this a LONG time ago, but I can't find anything related to it.

So I've got Sonar 8.5.1 running and I want to assign some ACT controls to SampleTank using my Edirol PCR-800. It seems to work ok for the four controls that are in the Macro section, but it doesn't seem to recognize any other knobs on the screen.

Can you not map anything except the Macro knobs?

On another note...have they (meaning either Cakewalk or IK) REALLY still not fixed the mouse wheel scroll of presets within the ST (or Sonic Synth) VST inside of Soanr?

Help on either of these points is appreciated.

So - no one else has this problem?

Any ideas?

In Tracktion I've been able to map other knobs using the MIDI-CTRL feature. Sadly it is per-patch, so you have to re-map every go%^&%mn F#@%^in patch\preset then save it. I'm pretty sure I asked about htis and it was confirmed by others that this is the case.
The 'mixer' portion of Sampletank responds to standard CC7 volume I've notice too.
The 4 macro knobs are global, I guess, in that they always respond to the same midi cc although they are doing different things to the sound depending on what the author hooks them up to.

and, yeah, no mousewheel when used as a VST for me either. oh and it takes a loong time to initialize. I can change the colour of the display though. :D

IKMM has said that mousewheel scrolling works, but several, including me, have reported to IKMM that it does not in various hosts.

Meanwhile, I use asseca's ST2 wrapper, for extensive browser navigation (and other controls):

It's well worth slipping him a few ePointz :)

And: Find your ST2Pref.txt file (it's in C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 2.5\Preferences here), make a back-up copy and change the colour values

PS Squids, I really would like Sonik Synth to make use of the Macro knobs. ;) I know it's not possible as it's an IKMM product, but SS2.5 perhaps?

You can also change display color interactively, without editing any files manually. Those three tiny knobs (Col, Lum, Sat) at the right edge of the big display do it. Unfortunately they don't take effect until you release the mouse button, so you can't see changes while dragging.

If wrapped with mGUI, then the "three tiny knobs" can be adjusted using the mousewheel, the color effect feedback is then immediate ...

It is shocking that ST2's interface was so lacking (mouse-free, Combi-browsing, anyone?) that 3rd party folks had to step in to offer this workaround fix. Even more shocking is that over 3 years on the situation is still the same. For each combi you want to load, you have to click and hold on the tiny combi area, scroll........scroll, scroll some more, scroll some more, scroll a bit more, precisely position your cursor on a 2mm spot to expand the sub menu, then the sub-submenu, then the sub-sub-submenu.

It takes 10 seconds just to scroll down to the "Sampletank 2" combis. Load times may be fantastic, but that is all for naught if it takes you 18 seconds to scroll down to the sound you want. Not the combi you wanted? Simply repeat the above steps and eventually you'll find your way to the next combi to load it. At this rate, it would take weeks to simply audition the existing combis.
