Anybody know if there such a tool that would allow you to edit fxp files.

Particularly, Chainer files. Sometimes some plug-ins within Chainer combos crash Chainer, so the whole combo becomes unloadable/useless.

Going in and removing the troublesome plugin from the fxp file, so that you can save it out and let Chainer load the rest of the combo would be ideal.

Also, sometimes a combination of two plug-ins will crash the combo when trying to re-open it, so editing one plug out and then the other would allow you to go back and save those presets individually and load them for live use.

Many thanks :)

I know very little about this and I don't know if this answer will help, or even lead you on the right path but there is a FREE (afaik) standalone Prog' called dmbankmaker2 available. It's for making BANKS obviously!

Thanks for the information. Sorry for hijacking this topic a bit, but is there any tool that lets you extract the presets in a bank into separate files? Thanks in advance.

Is there also a handy tool for doing the opposite? I want to sort presets and save them in a bank.

have you tried contacting the dev of Chainer? he might be able to help with that, may be a bug of some sort...?

No I haven't.

Anyway it doesn't have anything to do with Chainer, it's a combination of two plugs that causes the combo to crash. In my instance a combination of Tera 2 and Guitar Rig 3.

But I found a way to do exactly what I wanted. In a hex editor I just, well rather blindly, took out the code that I thought was relevant to the plugin that I wanted to take out of the combo. Then saved the fxp in the hex editor and much to my surprise, it works a 100%.
The combo loads normally in Chainer and the plug in that I wanted out, well there's no trace of it.

Sometimes if that troublesome plug in has a particular setting that's fundamental to the overall combo instrument, then you just edit out all the other plug-ins and leave that plug. Load that 'combo' and save the preset.

Then it's just a matter of using that troublesome plugin and its preset with all the other ones in the combo live as you record.

In my case Tera 2 does some wierd shit to Guitar Rig 2 and 3, so I can't save them together in a combo.

Some other plugs do this as well, for example the different versions of Ariesverb were incompatible with each other, you couldn't load a later version and have the old one still running.
