I have not had this happen to me (I have not used the VST), but it sounds very similar to what can happen to the other output drivers.
If for some reason the output driver experiences an unrecoverable error, it will cause the audio to stop for that run of zyn and it will cause parts of the gui to act a bit strangely (like the volume meters).
I am not sure where the exact problem lies, but it should be within some of the VST code.
Right now I am working with the input/output drivers, so when I reorganize them I will try to look for points of failure in the VST.
I have not worked to much with the VST, so if anyone else finds the source of this glitch, it would be much appreciated if a patch could be made.

Thanks for response and info.
Maybe I need to go back to earlier version.

Hopefully you have good luck with a previous version, but from everything that I have read about the history of the VST component is that it is a tad flaky.
Hopefully that can change with time.

What is the most stable version?
If stand-alone has least amount of problems, maybe that's the way to go.
It's easy to lose enthusiasm with the beautiful sounds when the synth crashes or has problems on a regular basis.

As far as I know, the 2.4.0 standalone version on Linux should be the most stable.
(the windows standalone should also be quite a bit more stable than its VST counterpart).
