Sort of an indie pop/rock thing. [Edit: Or not. See below.] Originally this had two sung lines, but the singing sucked and the lyrics didn't fit the mood in the daylight, so it is all instrumental instead of just mostly so.

For Yağmur

A short piece for my newest niece, Yağmur ("Yaa-moor...with the oo as in 'kook'" according to my sister. It means "rain" in Turkish).

Really enjoyed both of these, particularly Brighter Night, lovely and pastoral, reminded me of the organic, chirupping stuff Múm used to do before they gradually suffocated under their own tweeness. Yağmur's a nice blend too, sort of cowboy gamelan.

The mixes have a slightly boxed-in feel here, more noticeable on Brighter. Might be something as simple as all the more prominent elements being clustered in near the centre. I feel outside the mix, rather than enveloped. Hmm, maybe they're designed for headphone listening. I'll try that.

I can't top Barnadine's commentary. There are excellent! I needed some chilly folkish (more folk than pop imo) music like this atm! Indeed the second one sounds like a soundtrack for an asian western. Your tunes are a great advert for freeware plugs.

Enjoyed both of these. Quite different from each other, and in completely unfamiliar styles. I would agree they sound more folky that pop. I think I slightly prefer 'For Yağmur'.

I was just watching firefly, a sci fi / western show with a a chinese-american alliance future. Made me think how well For Yağmur would have fit in it's soundtrack (which you'd probably enjoy).

Very nice DHM, I enjoyed these! The real instruments definitely give them a bit of a folk feel.

And what a beautiful name, Yağmur... and I love the fact that it means rain.

@Barnadine: You're right about the mixes being off, even by my standards, and moreso on A Brighter Night. I haven't decided if I'm bothered enough by it to go back and try to better things. (I lean toward no, but stranger things have happened.) If you happen to check back in this thread, let me know if headphones made any difference. I'll have to check out Múm.

First one seems to be quite far away from pop-rock thing, which is maybe why I like it a lot. Sounds fresh and new with tribal vibe, for some reason it reminds me of Mole Trilogy, even though it sounds way different, must be those rhythmic patterns or maybe mutant horn sound.
Second track is quite enjoyable too and closer to this reality, would work well as film music. Thanks for sharing.

edit: Just read other comments, I second Firefly impression. It's a great series, too bad it has been killed to soon.
