Hi folks :) Put your questions regarding Armchair Guitarist here :)

And good luck to all the other developers! Can't wait to have a play :)

UPDATE 23/11/2009: I've parameterised all the button and axis mappings, and added presets for the XBox360 and PS3, along with a button in the gui to switch between them. PS3 support is still experimental, so PLEASE let me know if you encounter a fault.

UPDATE 16/11/2009: I've created a bug tracker at http://bugs.armchairguitarist.com/, and a dedicated support forum at http://forums.armchairguitarist.com/ - go crazy :)

UPDATE: Have updated the software to improve compatibility with some hosts, as well as working on XP/Vista 32bit *forehead slap*

Can confirm that it works in the following hosts:

Cubase 5
EnergyXT
Ableton Live 8.0.4
Reaper 32bit
Synapse Orion
Sony Acid Pro
VSTHost

It should function in any host that calls processReplacing() in the main loop, and can receive MIDI events. I'm continuing to test- if others could post their findings here as well I'd be most grateful.

This works on Windows, doesn't it? Doesn't load in anything, xp and vista/savihost/energy xt/reaper.

Not even in EnergyXT? Smeg... Okay, I'll have a look into it.

Can anyone else confirm this?

When you say it doesn't load, which of the following is closest (this is just a general list):

1. It doesn't appear in the plugin browser
2. It appears in the plugin browser, but fails to load when added to a project
3. It can be added to a project, but the GUI fails to appear
4. The gui appears, but is unresponsive to mouse clicks
5. The Controller Selector, Mode Buttons and Flip Strings button can be clicked,
but there are no controllers to select
6. You can select a controller, but nothing happens when you click buttons on the controller or move the DPad / Strum bar
7. The plugin responds to controller events, but no sound is made by connected synths / no midi messages are sent

Righty... I've installed XP 32bit on one of my machines, and recompiled / tested it on that.

I've also shuffled one or two things around internally, which should improve compatibility with some hosts.

Sorry 'bout that... It should work in Energy XT now- download has been updated.

As to the other two, I've tested it in VSTHost and it should work. It's not really designed to work as a standalone though, so it's not really suitable for SAVIHost. As to Reaper, I've had a look at their documentation, and it looks like they only support a subset of VST, which doesn't include MIDI from plugins, so we're out of luck there :(

Post

I was quite wrong about Reaper- I've just tested it in the 32bit version, and it works fine :D

Post

Pleased to report that I've received confirmation that it works in Cubase 5 :)

I've also managed to test it positively in Sony Acid Pro and Synapse Orion.

FL Studio says this about the plugin:

Okay, that's really messed up... What setup are you guys using? OS, version of host, etc?

Can anyone that I haven't given this to by hand confirm that it's working?

Post

Okay, I've got a hunch about what might be wrong, but I'll need help testing it- would anyone like to volunteer?

Post

Okay... I think I've finally tracked down the problem, after installing another instance of XP with no Visual Studio.

My mistakes were:

1) Compiling with the wrong linkage options, thus creating unnecessary dependencies
2) Getting other developers to test, who had those dependencies installed on their machines already :P

So, my face is a big, eggy mess.

Anyway... The version I've got at the moment works on my new, vanilla XP32 install, with nothing installed but EnergyXT- no IDE, no compiler, no runtimes- and it goes.

Before I upload it though, I'd appreciate it if someone else could verify that this version runs on their machine. If you're interested, and DON'T have Visual Studio installed on your machine, please PM me or reply here so I can send you the updated file.

Post

Right... I've managed to rope in some external testers that DON'T have a devleopment environment themselves, and they assure me it's working on their systems.

Go nuts! Oh, and please tell me if there are further problems- they won't get fixed if I don't know about them ^-^

Runs like a champ now. I don't have any dedicated video game system, or controller though.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks, man :)

You can use it with a regular joystick (use the POV-Hat as the strum bar :)), but it's just not the same lol

Still, now that the theory's proven I can produce other plugs using the same technology- I have big, big plans for the turntable from DJ Hero... :)
