+1 it's backwards imo. but i'll not say any more in this thread as i've got nothing good to say and mom always said...sonkeysankey wrote:It isn't that complex, it's just poor programming....Parsec.audio.tron. wrote:wow didn't really realize it'd be asking for 4 gigs of ram. i am eventually upping my 2 to 4 but haven't done so yet... i didn't have the impression that this bass synth could be that complex to need 4 gigs but what do i know... back to the research
Is it written in Assembler? Why doesn't it just stream large samples? How ludicrous that supposedly 'better' software is actually worse than older software (i.e. uses more system resources than are necessary.)

Thats just a rethoric question but of course NO-there is absolutely no way to get that level of detail with any samplebased instrument that has a smaller footprint. And i hope that my demos show that those details indeed dont get lost in the mix even when using multiple basses in the same song which is pretty much the approach that i am taking in my clips. Sofar i think i used Trilian exclusively in those clips for ALL the tonal sounds including the chords and on my system (Genelec 8250) i can still hear all the little things like x-notes, squeaks and how the round robin takes care for keeping things sounding organic and alive.spectrum wrote:What do you say Dr. Wu?I listened to one of Dr Wu's very nice sounding demos - the only problem being that the bass could have been produced by any number of much less PC intensive (both in RAM, hard drive use and CPU) synths... Because you simply can't hear the differences when the bass is in a mix.
You have lots and lots of simpler bass samples in your library....right?
Could you have produced those tracks with the older sounds and have it sound the same?
I love the amount of detail in Trilian and the fact that accessing them is so effortless. Just play and let it happen. Only minor tweaking is required to optimize the endresult. Its really a musicians dreammachine.
A sure way to keep the low end interesting for some time to come!
Most important for me is the inspiration factor that an instrument like Trilian provides.
When i load up one of Trilians basses it makes me wanna play til the cows come home.
Ideas just pop up out of nowhere as soon as i start jamming with it.
Look at the release dates of my videos- i made about 4 or 5 of the Trilian based clips in the last 2 weeks alone-and thats including the videos!
And thats just in my free time-i do have a dayjob afterall to pay my bills.......
and BTW the next one is already in the works and i hope to upload it later this afternoon.
over and out-back to the track

There was nothing on Dr Wu's track that you could HEAR, that couldn't have been done with a 1MB bass sample. That is nothing against Dr Wu's musical talents, just a statement of fact.kmonkey wrote:30Gb for bass library, bass instrument and asking for 2gb of ram or more...
I've heard tracks which are made with less then 1mb of bass sample(sign of clever programing ??), still they sound way better then anything on that video. I could understand if this is all about recording orchestra or something but imho it's overrated marketing. They are "catching" customers with these overrated strategies which involve big numbers and so called "new" revolutionary sampling system. Just imho of course...Also pretty logical decision for company at this point of time. People tend to think that they have superb product if there are big numbers involved. Old story. Look at Camera(pixel) market
Few years later they will release bass library 1TB big, with superb new technique of sampling - bass instrument recorded on fire in grand canyon!
I also could understand if this was orchestral instruments, say a violin, with thousands of samples, to enable you to replicate the incredible variation in a violin playing, but for bass, it's is simply unnecessary. Just go and listen to a few hundred albums and listen to the bass - ninety times out of a hundred, there will be no audible variation in the sound - I don't remember hearing it on the vast majority of music I've ever heard.
As for hiring HBO - you were robbed, seriously. ANYBODY could have filmed video of that quality- AND used a tripod while they were at it. Why would you hire HBO to do a recording as simple as that? I'm sure there are thousands of media students in your area who could have done exactly the same job for nothing.
As I said - the guy who made the comments here about the video being HD quality, etc. was just being foolish - there are tens of thousands of HD videos on Youtube, shot by random members of the public. How is that remotely relevant to whether Trilian is any good, and more to the point - necessary?

anyways, as reason has pointed out , you are just plain rude and should maybe think a little more before you open your mouth![]()
What do you think Microsoft have to gain by making Windows Vista a massive piece of bloatware that requires more system resources than its ancestor?
Spectrasonics have a lot to gain by saying "This instrument is so powerful that it requires specification X", just look at all the fanboys on this thread...
Show me where, in Dr Wu's demo, (I'll find the name of the song) that the Trilian bass is doing anything that could not be done with a bog standard bass instrument off Sampletank.
But don't tell me- I'm deaf! That must be it! I couldn't possibly be talking sense, could I.

Why - didn't you read what I wrote above? I've explained WHY, quite clearly.syzygywell wrote: I cannot image what you are bitching about or why.
You cannot and will not hear the difference in a mix. Hence why bloat up your PC with Trilian?
Is that simple enough?
Perhaps somebody can show me a demo with Trilian in, which clearly shows the difference it offers. Not a bass solo, as I haven't got a single piece of music on my hard drive that is like that, nor do 99% of pieces of music have them. A song, with a bass instrument, that is clearly Trilian.

Or maybe because nobody would be able to hear the difference if it was in a mix?spectrum wrote:kmonkey wrote:
It's worth keeping in mind that Bass ALWAYS sounds better in a track. So imagine how well having an instrument that sounds as good as it does under the most difficult, exposed, realtime situation like Trilian does in the video will sound once you add all the clever sequencing/arranging/mixing tricks.
Makes sense...right?
That's why we demo'ed it this way......no smoke and mirrors, no drum loops, no accompaniment, no auto-tuned Britney Spears...no nothing. Just the instrument straight out of the computer.

Some people are just miserable in life. My suggestion to them is to just kill yourself and have a good day.![]()
I will get my copy of trilian on tuesday. I Cant wait.
Obviously I'm not going to buy Trilian.
What you are saying above is "Nobody is allowed to criticise Trilian."
Brilliant.
As for "My suggestion to them is to just kill yourself" - read that again and think about what you're saying...
Truly pathetic.

but since talk is cheap
howabout this?
I will send you one of my Trilian demos as a midifile and you assign one of your 1 MB basses and post the results and then we do the comparison.

The simple fact alone that Trilian has more round robin samples than any other bass library I know of (which often have none) makes it worth it. To me, that's one of the most important things in almost any sampled instrument (having enough round robins), and I'm glad someone finally got it right with bass too. Just take any song where you have bass playing a repeated 1/8 note for a while (I have my hard drive full of those songs). There might be drums, even some electric guitar playing at the same time, but if there's no round robin, my ear gets it immediately. I hate that effect. It sounds like crap. With Trilian, it's very much possible I don't have to suffer from that any more.sonkeysankey wrote: Perhaps somebody can show me a demo with Trilian in, which clearly shows the difference it offers. (Actually I'm using more and more real bass nowadays, but I'm pretty sure Trilian is still going to be real useful.

@sonkeysankey: Why is it so important for you to post so much about a product you don't think is necessary? You've written your remarks and stated and restated your point of view about Trilian. Fine. Some agree and most in this thread disagree. Why keep posting and posting? What do you have to prove? And you've gone beyond bashing the product itself, you're now bashing the way the videos were shot. What next? How Eric looks? (He's a handsome fella ain't he?
).
I could argue your position about Trilian pretty easily from my point of view but at the end of the day it's a preference over product cost issue (plenty of HD space is not uncommon these days).

Nevermind
I had a great suggestion,Im sure you can guess it tho. I will just say that negativity in the world is not needed, especially about a program that you dont wont or have interest in.It seems very childish and unnecessary.
Everybody has bills to pay,but it seems like you are really trying your best to sabotage spectrasonics name and business. You should really think about what you are saying and just leave it alone. You have already said what you wanted to say.
Have a good day sonkey
