It's a remastered version of the last Steinway&Sons that Rachmaninov owned and I offer this to you as shareware. Feel free to use it in your music with no restrictions.

That won't work well at all. Kontakt's not written in assembler.standalone wrote:Copy & paste this in Kontakt:

I simply don't agree with the premise that Bass doesn't matter all that much, especially in a mix. It's just not true. The bass "sound" (notes, tone, playing) in a piece of music matters just as much as any other instrument to my ears.
Most bass players are just as picky about their tone and their instrument as any other musician, and having the right tone/instrument can really make or break a song. This goes for electronic music even more. Just think of the countless stories about people/producers searching for that 'bass sound', or finding just the right Kick in an electronic piece of music. Or all the playing about with filtering/pitching the Bass and Kick to play well together.
Plenty of attention has been paid to the lower part of the frequency spectrum, just because you don't pay it doesn't mean it's not important.

WOW! Great Steinway. I think you could probably do a piano reduction of this piece with it:

In my opinion... bass is one of the HARDEST things to get right.1-2-Many wrote:I simply don't agree with the premise that Bass doesn't matter all that much, especially in a mix. It's just not true. Thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to say.Tren wrote:I think some interesting points have been raised on here thus far, and healthy debate about the actual importance of this product (from BOTH sides) should never be regarded as 'unpositive'. I for one am glad that this thread isn't one-sided, with everyone blindly praising the product, however seeing criticisers of the importance of this product being told to 'kill themselves' is frankly ridiculous.
I personally agree that this is a big sample library, and by and large bass within a mix does not require the level of articulation this product will provide. That, I guess, was the argument being put forward by sonkeysankey and he is definitely right; especially in pop/rock,
Okay, Dr Wu - this track, for example:

What exactly is Trilian doing with the main bassline, that is so special? I can't hear it. Some vibrato, and what else?
I can't use your MIDI file because I doubt Buzz will import it...
Couldn't you just easily substitute a 1MB bass sound, or a synth bass, and let us hear the difference?
For my side of the argument - just listen to 99% of the top 100 albums which use a synth of some description for the bass. How would you even hear Trilian, or care, in a song such as Kirsty Hawkshaw's "Reach for me" (Solasso Remix), or Adamski's "Killer", or anything by hundreds of other bands who use synths for their bass sounds?
I don't hear anything special about the basses in your song demos, Dr Wu - what am I missing?Tren wrote: by and large bass within a mix does not require the level of articulation this product will provide.

Nice dodge, sonkeysankey. He gave you the MIDI file and you still can't prove your point.
Cmon dude, load up some 1 mb bass patch and show us what you can do. The burden of proof is not on Dr Wu to make your case.

There are the slides at 1:00 and 1:15 to my mind. That's very tough to do without dedicated samples as is anything that involves fret buzz.sonkeysankey wrote: Okay, Dr Wu - this track, for example:

That's OK. Renoise will happily import MIDI and you don't have to have a paid licence as you can record the output.sonkeysankey wrote:I can't use your MIDI file because I doubt Buzz will import it...
Anyway, I thought Buzz was this wonder tracker that would hit anything else out of the park.

the point you're still missing is that this is a pro acoustic and electric (but not synth) bass instrument.....forgive some of us for wanting to make something that doesn't always involve synth bass
and what 99% of what top albums...what are you talking about???
though the synth stuff sounds great here, i reckon it would be a little extravagant to buy this just for the synth bass...it's like a great bonus to the main event for me...but it is also understandable that spectrasonics want to represent all basses
the people who appreciate what this is are looking for something different for you and have an appreciation for what would go into producing something so great
anyway rather than picking apart someone elses work, show us what you mean...let's hear your chops

A troll will always be a troll: For the sake of self-amusement. After all, the troll is entertained by the replies it gets. A troll's self-appointed job is to hijack a perfectly constructive thread, and then try to send it spiraling down until all the participants are enraged and the point of the thread is lost. The best reply is no reply at all.Arglebargle wrote:Nice dodge, sonkeysankey. He gave you the MIDI file and you still can't prove your point.

Back to the topic at hand.
Has everyone gotten a chance to see the videos? Here's a question: Which types of bass sounds will you primarily be using in your music? 1)Acoustic 2)Electric or 3)Synth?
