It's on my list. If GC gets it in stock this month (special financing/12mo.) I'll probably pick it up. I don't do anything overly complicated, I just do simple stuff but would like to pick up on that tone if possible

After hearing Dr Wu's demos, I can say that Trilian is the best sample-based bass instrument available.
Only physical modeling, done with extreme attention to detail and tonal accuracy, would be able to sound better and provide us with more options for sound design.

Except that the basis of the opinion is incorrect.Tren wrote:A lot of produced pop music which uses electric/acoustic bass instruments does not feature bass solos and usually does not feature parts of the song where the bass is exposed very much if at all. Therefore if that kind of music is the kind being composed predominantly, then Trilian is a luxury rather than a necessity. There is nothing wrong with expressing that opinion...
Repeated notes are extremely common in almost all popular music that uses Acoustic and Electric Bass. Without detailed, dynamic round robin samples - there is a huge difference in the result.
It's the old machine-gun effect issue that's widely known and largely accepted. It has nothing to do with soloistic Bass music.
Well of course. To anyone who doubts the importance of rhythmic timing over clever sample libraries, please read this:
http://www.numericalsound.com/dna-groov ... notes.html
Hard quantized acoustic drums and bass sound awful and anyone who can't hear that or hear the huge difference between Gadd playing to a click, compared with a mechanized MIDI beat, needs their ears tested FAR more than someone who can't hear the difference IN A MIX between a 1MB well programmed and played bass patch and Trilian's fancy big presets. In my humble opinion.
No one is arguing arguing against the importance of timing. After all, Trilian's arpeggiator includes Groove Template technology for doing exactly what the test above shows.
No...I think you are not understanding the importance of features like round-robin and legato triggering in standard bass lines. These are things that every live bassist does naturally, even in punk rock bands. In a nutshell, if Trilian's acoustic/electric module were a person, it'd be Victor Wooten - kind of total talent overkill for your usual rock/pop bassist wouldn't you say? - especially if the bass is simply underpinning the chords of the song with a few occasional counterpoint parts!
BTW, Trilian is not the only product to feature these ideas....they are widely accepted as important on virtually all new professional sample libraries....check around and you'll see that this is the case.

This for me is one of *the* reasons to get Trilian IMO.spectrum wrote: Without detailed, dynamic round robin samples - there is a huge difference in the result.

Why is it that discussions on KvR are so often derailed?
I mean, instead of discussing the features of this instrument people are discussing camera recording techniques or the necessity of even having bass libraries sampled in detail.

Spectrasonics has gotten some surpricing flag with their products. It started with Omnisphere, and is repeated here at the Trilian release... Noone can argue that it sounds good, but they CAN be heavy on the CPU. Some feel offended by this... I'm not quite sure if it's the first part or the second.

I just have to drop my two cents.
I bought Omnishpere about 6 months ago. It took me some real investment in time, and a little ram to really appreciate it. Now I am in freaking love with the steam engine! The sonic results of their new synth sounds are unreal! Seriously rivals my Virus KC + SC Pro One (past favorites).
Here is a link to a remix I just did. Pretty much all Omnisphere Bass and Synths (one Virus pluck sound).

Amazing how expressive and big their presets can be!
As soon as Spectrasonics releases the Trilian patch update (more synth presets) I will buy it straight away without flinching.
Love these guys!

Thanks, some good sounds there
(maybe the high-hats are a touch bright, though? - at least on my speakers) But it's cool how Omnisphere does both very electric synth sounds and also acoustic sounds.

I made a comment about the quality of the Trilian videos earlier in the thread as I think they are superbly done. Just a comment to give credit to one of my favourite devs that took the time to produce his videos for this product with as much attention to detail as the product development by the looks of things. I like what I saw...and still do.kotori wrote:Why is it that discussions on KvR are so often derailed?

As for the discussion about sampling in detail...I see no issue with the discussion (I doubt Eric is bothered about that as well) its how some posts have been made that I see no need for. Anyone can make a point but surely without needless hostility.
Of course if one dislikes a product so much then there are plenty of choices out there.
Personally I think Trilian is another excellent Spectrasonics offering.

christianmusicmaker, I agree with what you say about the discussion. I too think the videos are very well-produced. I was thinking more of those who were nitpicking about the video recording and saying, more or less, that quality of basses doesn't matter since you don't hear them in isolation anyway - an opinion that pretty much amounts to dissmissing all virtual basses in the high-end segment out there.

Yes, it's amazing. Rather like the way Sampletank does both very electric sounds and also acoustic sounds. And umpteen other synth/samplers out there...iain_morland wrote:Thanks, some good sounds there(maybe the high-hats are a touch bright, though? - at least on my speakers) But it's cool how Omnisphere does both very electric synth sounds and also acoustic sounds.

What are you talking about? What on Earth was so special about the video production quality? You have obviously been living under a rock for the past year or so. Virtually all camcorders on the market are HD nowadays. And they didn't even use a tripod!christianmusicmaker wrote:I made a comment about the quality of the Trilian videos earlier in the thread as I think they are superbly done. Yes, I agree - I take it you are talking about the post where somebody told me to "kill myself". I didn't see any hostility in MY posts - just simple statements of my unhostile opinions on the lack of necessity for MOST musicians to use Trilian. As for the discussion about sampling in detail...I see no issue with the discussion (I doubt Eric is bothered about that as well) its how some posts have been made that I see no need for.
