Is Amplitube Metal good for anything besides Metal? Would you get Hendrix or Metal?

Don't get fooled by a name. It's definitely good for more than just metal. Just like you can do more with Hendrix Edition than just play Hendrix covers.
The way I look at it, Hendrix is really AmpliTube '60s Edition, and Metal is AmpliTube '80s Edition. Viewing them like that puts these 2 in the clearest focus.

Take a look at the gear emulated in Metal and decide if it is gear you want to use. Or better yet, try the demo. I have both Metal and Hendrix, and I prefer Metal. I think it is the best of all the AmpliTube editions (because I love the '80s). It has the best Marshall model out of all ampsims out there, and some killer spot on stomps, like the Boss and MXR flangers, and the Phase 90. It also has the nicest clean amp model around. I think if it's a Bassman or Twin you're looking for, AmpliTube Fender is going to be a better choice than Hendrix. Hendrix, like Metal, is good for adding specific pieces of gear. The Marshall in Hendrix is very different from the other AmpliTube Marshall models. It's more mellow and bluesy, but it has a real nice bite when you feed it with a distortion pedal. Hendrix has the best virtual wah, and a great Uni-Vibe. It also has a far more accurate FuzzFace than AT2. So the question here, just like with Metal, is if these are amps and pedals you want to add to your repertoire.

The more I read the more I'm leaning towards Metal.

I have Fender and love it. I knew I wanted Ampeg SVX as my second group buy. I didn't really even test AT2 just because it was the most expensive (so I would save money if I wanted to buy it later), I heard it had the broadest range, and I felt like my needs were mostly met between Fender and Ampeg.

I should have gone with Hendrix or Metal and just skipped AT2... Appreciate everyone's comments and I'll definitely try these two out before deciding which way to go.

You shouldn't regret getting AT2. It's a great foundation. I like the tone of the Mesa Boogie in AT2 better than the one in Metal, though it doesn't really hit its full potential until you swap the default 100W 6L6 amp module from AT2 with the 150W 6L6MT from Metal. There's a lot you can do with AT2 in conjunction with either Hendrix or Metal like that. I like to use the 2x12 Closed Vintage from AT2 with the British Lead S100 from Hendrix to create a really nice Bluesbreaker.

Agreeing with a lot of what's said here, and based on my experience before ever even thinking of being a part of IK. Metal was always a go-to, and with X-Gear in play as the open system/hub to mix and match pre/eq/power amp components it just made it more a part of sounds from the AmpliTube line for me (and redshift factor gave a very specific example of what you can do with this). I love the lead sounds I can get but it has been shown in this thread that rhythm sounds are great too (and I've enjoyed them too). The cleans are great but I find myself just in some crazy stalker-like love for Fender most times there since it came out Hendrix was and still is a fave for cleans too.

So, I think the question has already been answered by the fine folks that jumped in - it ain't just for metal.
