Though I don't own it, nor do I use it. I think it's the best of all the DAWs that I don't own and use... and that's a lot of DAWs.

I just bought my license last week. It's come a long way, and it runs fine on my macbook. Granted I've been using Live for a bit, but I really wanted to get back to that Tracktion'esque focus on editing. I started reworking all the shortcuts to tracktion shortcuts (or as close as possible, which is really close). I then simplified the menus, in addition to, removed much of their wordiness. Snagged Unempty's Kontra theme, and I've been good since. At this point, it's pretty fantastic for what I want. On top of that, it's got double duty in that it's better than any wave editor on OSX. Enjoying it, indeed.

You know what..if you could put this down into a PDF manual or something..step by step...there are many who might thank you for it.
One of the things I hate the most is the workflow.

What I discovered is a lot of the workflow is actually there. It just requires digging thru the options to get it to the point of familiarity. Also the menus are just way to verbose and can be streamlined for your purposes. I'm still re working the context menus. Maybe it would be worthwhile to dump it into a pdf.

Which can be seen as a good thing because you don't have a company that is necessarily driven by constant expensive upgrades to generate continuous revenue. Reaper often gets features in the free x.x.x releases that other companies charge good money for. It's not perfect (personally, I'm hoping the MIDI editor sees refinement) but it's like a sculpture that's getting chipped out of a giant slab of rock. With each little chip it gets closer to its ultimate form of beauty.

Logically, it's like any business, keep your cost low and sell lot's of units. There's only 3 people working on Reaper, they don't sell in store so they bypass the whole packaging and distribution chain cost and, it being software, they don't need 12 000 sq/foot office space and companies cars to do it.

Then they threat customers with respect and not like thieves. All copy protection schemes get cracked eventually, so having only a nag screen is no different than any other scheme, except it doesn't inconvenience actual paying customers.

Recipe is simple: make a good product, sell it cheap, move lots of units. It's the very basic of what made the industrial revolution so successful.

Yes, it's much like a toolkit; you do have to spend some time initially to get the software to look, behave and feel the way you want it to(snapping behavior, default project, keyboard shortcuts, tab to transient parameters, color scheme, audio layout, extension etc.) but the good news is that you can, and you only have to do that once.

Still happy with my T3 on Win XP here but I'm keeping an eye on Reaper mainly because I like its CPU efficiency.

I've also converted some of the shortcuts but I'm still missing some crucial ones (like "z" and "F8"). I'm also missing "replace filter" and "find normalized levels". I'm sure that, as an experienced T user, you know what I mean. Any tips appreciated

I would actually pay good money for this! Yet another Tracktion refugee here looking for ways to streamline Reaper's interface. Just haven't had a chance to sit down and dig through it all myself yet.
