I have asked Andimaschine if it's OK for me to make the old version of Acidracks available. I will upload it temporarily to the comp file if he gives his permission. I dont know if this will be of any help to those who are having problems, but it might be worth a try for those who are not able to make progress with a track.

This is looking very much like the Galilleo problems again. No suprise that this VST is also made in Synthedit and that yourself and me (finally
I seem to remember that Max felt that the multicore issue was the main cause of trouble and that the DAW's made a contribution in their code handling. Being a complete idiot on the programming side, that's just pure waffle on my part - maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge could put their tuppence worth in.

For the record, I am on an Intel dual core, with 3GB RAM.slugfest99 wrote:I doubt if it will make much odds Tattie imho.tattiemannie wrote:I have asked Andimaschine if it's OK for me to make the old version of Acidracks available. Maybe it is better to wait with starting a particular OSC until it is quite certain that the synth is more mature and works for at least 99% of the people.

OK, as I'm responsible for suggesting this VST I can only apologise that you're having trouble and I take your point.Bug80 wrote: Maybe it is better to wait with starting a particular OSC until it is quite certain that the synth is more mature and works for at least 99% of the people.
From past OSC experience, even with extremely established VST's, you'd be suprised what occurs as software/hardware evolves. We were going to go for a very respected Ensoniq emulator a few months back but that caused no end of trouble for some folk and was abandoned as an OSC.
Another semi-abandoned OSC (Galilleo - released 2007) was caused by a VST that the author wasn't even aware was causing problems out in the wild
So again, sorry - unfortunately life just isn't that simple

Actually Mouxbar, your as responsible as everyone who failed to chime in with alternatives when we needed to get the November comp launched! ... I'm not having a go at anyone, just suggesting by way of comparison, that you deserve praise rather than criticism for giving us something to work with.
I cant remember right now who it was, but someone else suggested we use Hahaha, and I could just as easily have gone that way. But who's to say we wouldn't have had the same problems, ...or a different set of problems for that matter?
In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter much. There will be other competitions, and no doubt there will be different degrees and types of problem/challenge with each one. But we dont have to be 'successful' to learn stuff and benefit from the experience, and if a particular guy has insurmountable probs in one comp, thats not to say he/she wont be flying in the next one whilst someone else is struggling. I dare say we have a few regular OSCers now who have found themselves on both sides of that equation.
It would be cool to have synths checked out for universal compatibility ahead of the launch of a comp, but I fear the reality is that we would be spending more time and energy testing and communicating in 'geekanese' than we would joyously farting around in a more creative manner.
So hang on in there guys, on the whole, we do tend to find synths which are robust and useable by the vast majority .... but keep your suggestions coming, I do keep a record of them .... if you want I'll post my updated candidate list when we get the Flex-N-Stein comp under way ( or before if you really want me to ... ). ... Actually, I have been thinking for sometime that it might be nice to have a thread going where we discuss OSC candidates on an ongoing basis..... any thoughts?? ... or our own section of KVR??
Meffy??

Apologies are not enough. You will be dragged out of your house and forced to watch as we burn it down, with your dog and your cat locked inside. Then you will be tied to a column in a square and the whole town will witness as you get raped, whipped and insulted. Then you will be untied and beaten, and we will kick you in the stomach when you finally collapse to the ground. Finally, the whole population will spit at you and freely express their disgust for your revolting behavior before sending you in exile to a remote and cold land.slugfest99 wrote: OK, as I'm responsible for suggesting this VST I can only apologise
C'mon
There will never be a plug in that works with all computer configurations, that's the only fact. Those who can't partecipate in a particular OSC, will take part in the next, no big deal

I think your letting slugfest99 off a little easy
As someone who has been in animal rescue for 24 years I've seen much much worse than that so again your letting the cat and dog off easy as well
That damn cat probably made the suggestion to slugfest99 in the first place

If someone is having problems in their 'main host' with the synth-of-the-month, maybe try one of the free hosts just for grins (to see if it might work). For instance, Musagi is tiny and free, and might actually work (at least to a degree).
Maybe for some people it's as simple as that 'synthedit/dual core thing;' and there's not a host out there which will work in such situations.
I do agree that starting a thread with an overall list of candidates, and asking people to reply as to which ones work on their machine or not; that such a sort of thing might be helpful to the contest.

It was not my intention to attack anyone. Of course, I understand that almost all softsynths might give problems for *some* people, but acidrack is still very young (released on October 14th according to the KVR database) and blue screens are not a symptom of simple compatibility problems or anything.slugfest99 wrote:OK, as I'm responsible for suggesting this VST I can only apologise that you're having trouble and I take your point.Bug80 wrote: Maybe it is better to wait with starting a particular OSC until it is quite certain that the synth is more mature and works for at least 99% of the people.
On the other hand, an OSC is a really nice "stress test" for synths, because they will probably be used to their full potential by the users. So that is perfect for new synths like this one, and very interesting for users & developers.
So just forget my comments and move on, I will wait for another opportunity to join the challange!

No probs at all Bug80, your comments are welcome! Its good to have a healthy level of discussion going on anything to do with the OSCs, a lot has been learned and a fair number of things have changed as a result of participants and potential participants sharing info and opinions.
mrblitz000 ... cheers for the submission!

Mac, you've just described a night out in North Norfolk perfectly. You obviously have a profound understanding of English yob cultureMac of BIOnighT wrote: Apologies are not enough. The only thing you've missed is the freestyle vomitting Olympics...
I think you should ask Tattie if he drinks "heavy" or not - that'll get you in trouble
