I don't know about you, but I work almost entirely in a single Window in Cubase. All the info is there for the most part. I know this is a joke thread, but people talk about "tons" of windows in Cubase all the time, but it's highly possible to avoid most of the windows.

Cubase still rocks, even if it had 40 windows. Call it bloatware if you want(not talking to you Alfalfa, we're on the same page here!), but I call it the best host eva!!!

Other hosts beware. Cubase is, and will remain king.

Definitely in denial. It's like when you know a loved one is dying. You do everything to be with them and make them happy.

Since Cubase is soon being destroyed by Studio One and/or Reaper, I'm trying to stay positive.

I think captain caveman is right to celebrate bloat. One man's bloat is another man's feature request. I do think Cubase could manage the features (bloat) better so that they don't feel quite so bloated. Having said that, Workspaces addresses most of it for me. I can also do a lot of the initial set-up with key commands, without mousing around as much. +1 for Cubase.

However, I have yet to find a better workflow for me than in Project 5 for one area. I could record a MIDI clip in the docked edit window, edit it, then place it into the project. Something about that really worked for me. But I don't think it was the lean thing versus bloat, or maybe it was...

Edit: Oh, and I use the main window, whatever it's called, the mixer, and the key editor. I wouldn't mind being able to dock them, but my screen is big enough for them all at once.

I would recommend musicians to think clearly about learning Cubase.

At the very least you must be hitting f2 and f3 quite a bit??

I would recommend all musicians with attention problems to never get into Cubase. I've had years of training. Not enough.

Please also never involve yourself with Spectarsonics.

Fun to get to know Cubase.

No dream world. When I bought Cubase, I just spent time learning how to best utilize everything from the inline MIDI to the superb inspector panel to the info pane. Yes, I load other windows at times, like the wave editor and occasionally the key editor or the instrument list. But most recording and editing can be done right in the single window, including VST Expression and many other things.

I have some workspaces set up for those times when I do need the other windows.

I also use Pro Tools, and it's even better than Cubase in terms of windows. Many things that Cubase needs an extra window for(audio editing, transient manipulation, silence filtering, etc.) can be done right in the main PT window on the timeline.

But overall, I don't have a problem with Cubase. I really do stay in one window for the brunt of my work. When I need something more advanced, it's a hotkey away.

I'm quite pleased about Reaper and Studio ONE's direct competition to Cubase. imho, it can only mean good things for Cubase. One of the things I've always liked about Cubase is that new features tend to 'fit' well in the app. As though the developers have sat down and actually discussed how to implement a new feature in as unobtrusive or streamlined a manner as possible.

The VST Expression articulation lane is a bit glitchy though, needs a bit more time in the oven methinks.

I'm actually still using Cubase LE.

Many moons ago, I bought a Tascam US-122 interface that came bundled with Cubasis (remember that one?) Like a year later, I found out Tascam was bundling LE with the US-122. I e-mailed Tascam, and they sent me a CD w/Cubase LE. I have been using it ever since. I can't afford the newer/pro versions, and sometimes I feel guilty about using cracked software

BTW one thing I have always liked about Cubase, that doesn't seem to be replicated with other hosts, is the way that multiple outputs from VST instruments show up like separate tracks in the main window.

Anybody heard of Cubase?
