Possible Density MkII problem

Hey everyone,

Just wanting to ask if anyone has had a suspicion that running Density Mk II has led to their host s/w closing unexpectedly.

I've been having that problem with Tracktion 2 on Win XP and I think I have deduced that the common aspect to all the projects that have been closing out of the blue on me has been that Density Mk II has been saved on all of them (though not always running).

This was all in one folder so I went through and deleted Density, which had been saved with almost every project. About 5-6 times as I did this, the host closed almost immediately after deleting Density (within 1-3 seconds), which leads me even more to think that the problem is connected to Density.

I don't recall this problem ever happening before (at least never anywhere near as frequently) and all the other plug-ins involved are things I've used many times before without issues.

Any similar experiences with anyone else?

TIA,
Dave

Haven't had any issues in Reaper, and I'm using the 64-bit version on my 64-bit Vista Business install with Reaper's built-in 32-bit to 64-bit bridging. I have had a bit of weirdness with knobs... But it's not just Bootsy, products from major companies sometimes have a bit of wobble to the knobs with the bridging going on. Once I set it it stays put just fine, though.

Sorry I couldn't help.

I have had this problem with both Tessla and Density. Running Samplitude 10.21

Sudden crashes back to the Windows desktop happen almost daily. They appear to be the culprit, but I'm not 100% sure, and I don't really have the time to analzye the issue. But, I never had this problem until I started trying his plugins.

FL Studio 9 seems a little more unstable when I use this plugin too... Didn't test extensively, but projects that had been fine before, seemed more susceptible to crash when Density was added. Also, it flickers, like if you put another box or plugin or whatever over Density then you'll see it flickering underneath.

Same here running on Live 7.

I was just writing about it on DOA. In FL8 and 9, Density and Epicverb both will make fruity disappear the instance the plug appears.

It's a shame because I really like them both.

Hmm, well that's good to know. I've run most of his other earlier plus, particularly Tesla 2, and not had problems. I had to step out right after I started this thread but now that I've eliminated the culprit from the folder I'm working on at the moment, I'll see if it remains stable tonight.

If we have a consensus that some Bootsy plugs may be closing applications, maybe he will take some time to look into the cause.

Thanks for the input,
Dave

At one point when I was deleting, I tried to open the plug-in GUI and it just appeared as an outline with nothing in the middle. That's the only time I can remember that happening, though.

I also got a BSOD IRQ not less or equal recently on one of these same projects and that's the only time I've ever had that happen while working in Tracktion.

Weird.

Actually, I just went and tested both Boot EQ 2 and Density 2 and the flickering happens on both of them when I open my plugin menu, not when I put another plugin over them (still seems like it's done that before, but that might be my imagination).. Like if I go to insert a VSTi, the menu drops open for which plugin to select, and the bootsy plugins are flickering away underneath.. Not a big deal really, but I don't have any other plugins that do that, I think it has to do with the animation.

It could have something to do with SM, too... I know Reaper has had some fixes specifically relating to improving compatibility with SynthMaker plugins, which could be why I have no trouble out of anything Bootsy or Ken or anyone else using SM does (that I've tried - I'm sure a poorly coded one would crash it, but these are folks I count on to do a thorough job). Sort of a mixed bag, on the one hand it's good if it's Bootsy's goof because then he can just troubleshoot and fix it, but then he made a mistake which is unfortunate; on the other hand if it's just a SM thing then it's not his fault, but then he can't help you.

It can't be SM per se in my case because this is the only plug-in that does this to me. I've used a bunch of his other stuff and other SM stuff and haven't had this issue before.

Yesterday, SM released a new compiler version which "Fixed several memory issues that were causing crashes when deleting plugins in some host applications" - so we could test that and see if it solves your crashes. Just drop me your eMail and I'll send you the bits.
Maybe we (finally) have a solution for all those diffuse poofs in certain host configurations.

Thought I'd just pop my head in and say, no issues in FL9... :tu:

I had previously mentioned my problems with disappearing hosts and some of Bootsie's (wonderful) plugins here (and a few posts backwards from this point):

I also have "randomly disappearing FL" problem but not sure if it has to do with Bootsie plugins that I use all the time. The problem appears not every time and too random to catch really.
