Image your system drive (and all data on it) using the disk and partition backup option.

If your "real" data are on another partition (or drive) go with the file backup option.

Cool, I'm backing up now,
I noticed the backing up file "TIB" about 10-15gigs smaller than the C drive.
Does it compress it? that's great, It's not very big actually.
Would you recommend loading the recovery back up after making it to find out if it works?

Well, I didn't write the algorithms. But as long as you've not toggled the "sector-by-sector"-option it sort of optimizes the bytes read into the tib-file during backup (on a formatted HD there's always some wasted physical space...).

Would you recommend loading the recovery back up after making it to find out if it works?

Verifying wether a method (here Acronis backup) works is always a good thing. But note, that first test could fail and you end up with both an unworking backup and a screwed OS.
What OS do you have? AFAIK the more recent Win OSes (Vista, Seven) have an own drive backup utility on board. For the case of all cases, you may want to create a 2nd backup that way before testing the Acronis one. But this is up to your degree of paranoia.

For anyone looking for free options I've found a couple.For file mirroring I'm using Cobian Backup 9 ,great program with extensive options reliable performance . For drive ghosting i'm trying out Macrium reflect free , has some usefull features like adjustable compression levels, , archive test, create boot disk and schedualer, havn'et tried to replace a drive yet though.
Seagate also provide a free version of acronis on their website but the create boost disc funtion doesn't work so I built one with the acronis demo.
Really was hoping the windows7 ghost and file backup option would work but I'm constantly getting errors with it, amazed that freeware alternatives work better than the mighty microsoft.
