no it isn't and all these years later I still get enjoyment out of getting a new toy to play with. But because I don't have to give anything up I just add them all to rotation.

But if I had to choose just one it would no doubt be hardware based, I really hate latency so I would rather use the direct monitor on my card and let an outboard unit (like a pod or my sansamp) do the work.

Well, though I don't like latency I like not being stuck with a sound. Of course that is a bad thing too, constantly changing tones.......sims.....I have too many toys and not enough discipline for sure!

It goes without saying (though I will) that demoing is pretty important.

My favorite is a fully loaded AmpliTube X-GEAR. Why choose just one?

I Can't wait for the next installment. If IK's history is to be a guide, they should anounce it in January and release it in March or May of the following year... :hihi:

from the quotes, my "acoustic", your "ACOUSTIC"...looks amplified to me

are you saying stuck with a sound as in once you record it you can't change it with a POD? Because you can re-amp through a POD, you can use gear box or just do it the hardware way. All you have to do is record a dry signal, change options for routing on the POD control panel and in your host select the POD as your output device and choose the POD as the input device on another track. Of course that applies to xt or later, for anything else you can still do it but not as directly

Some of them sound GREAT though and there are a few keepers in there for sure (LePou's latest Powerball emulation comes to mind). I still prefer commercial sims for the total package :)
Not wanting to contradict you, but I don't quite understand your argument. Where's the problem ?
Let's take HyBrit as an example, arguably all the classic Marshall / Hiwatt you might ever need when played through a good cab (GR4 CR for me).
FX via host (I typically like them better than most ampsim FX anyway) or, if you want, via one of the commercial sim packages ...
Personally I save such a chain in Cubase so I can recall the complete chain as fast as I could recall a preset from within a single sim.
Basically I always try to think in terms of hardware components as opposed to "Here's sim XY, what options does it offer ?", treating all amps as equally valid options, all stomps and so on if you get my idea.
That said, a good "stomp only" sim accurately modelling some of the boutique stomp stuff (overdrive, compression, wah, phasers mostly as these should be put before the amp, for all other FX I prefer VST FX after the cab anyway) would be a welcome addition and probably sell thousands.
Or alternatively ampsims using a modular approach, separate plugins for stomps, amps, cabs and (not really needed imho) rack FX.
In the end for me it's mix'n'match of ampsim components like in the real world, choosing the best tool for a job, regardless of manufacturer.

You won't coax me to comment on details about something like that so easily. Nice try, though ;) hehe

So you're saying it isn't true?

I'm guessing they're going to release a new set of T-Racks processors next. New amps would be nice, but my guess is that they want to expand T-Racks as quickly as possible.

I can understand Peter not wanting to comment however, so I think we should just speculate wildly for the time being and get everyone's hopes up to unrealistic levels. That'll show him for not giving us a hint...

@Funkybot's Evil Twin - you are evil indeed! I'm not saying that it isn't true, but I'm also not NOT saying it isn't true :) Wild speculation is welcome but I suppose not in this thread. We have discussed SampleTank 3 elsewhere and will discuss other upcoming stuff for sure as time goes by. Did I mention that you are really evil? :)

Ah-ha! So Amplitube Marshall is coming out Q1 next year! I don't know how you got the licensing for that but Kudos!

redshifts post says they will announce in january 2010 but release it in the first or second quarter of 2011 ;)

Might be true, though personally what I'd like to see is AT Matchless, AT Mesa, AT DrZ or similar, as these companies cover a much larger range of tones than any of the big players, at boutique quality.
And then, in IK's case I'd definitely like to see them revamp their cabs across all AT products, they really don't compare too well to GR4's CR or Recabinet imho.
Go for quality instead of quantity, 3 or 4 412s (Greenback, V30, T75 and EV) and you're done, same for the other cab classes. If I have a Marshall 412 with V30s I don't need an Orange or whatever 412 with V30s, and I would take a small but stellar identical set of HQ cabs common for all AT products over 50 mediocre ones any day.

Hi Susiwong, since you seem to know a lot about guitar rigs for a long time, I am interested in your opinion on amp sims.

So, are you saying that in your opinion GR4 is better for ampsims than IK's? Sorry if I didn't get it right.

I'm use to work a lot with real amps, but just start using sims the last year or so.

Interesting post BTW.

Am I not tweaking the right settings or is this just a limitation of today's generation of software? Does anybody prefer anything over these two? Are there significant improvements in the newer Guitar Rigs?
GR2 v GR4 - A big improvement

As to the other question, well how long have you got? You know what i mean...

The only way is to demo 'em all and use your ears to decide

I still FWIW use real amps and pedals along with mic'd speaker cabinet IR's
but that offers me what i need and might not cover enough ground or flexability for your needs/others needs

Good luck whichever way you find what works for you heavyrocks
