ozmoz2008 wrote:So, are you saying that in your opinion GR4 is better for ampsims than IK's? Sorry if I didn't get it right.
No, I would not say that for various reasons, mostly since you can only compare Twin with Twin, Plexi with Plexi and so on, a general statement is simply not possible.
I'll definitely say though that the cab quality in GR4 is in a completely different league than in all other current sims (I own GR4, AT complete, TH-1, GTR Solo and some good freeware).
However AT's newer amp models mostly beat the competition imho, but only when played through better cabs.
-------------------------------------------------
Simple reasoning, maybe oversimplified :
Amp > Cab = ? (scale from 1 to 5 points, higher is better)
GR4 > GR4 = 2 - 5
AT > AT = 3 - 4
GR4 > AT = 2 - 3
AT > GR4 = 4 - 5
Don't take that literally, it's only meant to illustrate some tendencies I hear
-------------------------------------------------
What further supports my theory is how 3rd party amps (Le Pou for example) react to cabs from AT, GR, TH-1 etc - same picture mostly.
So currently imho GR4 has the best speakers hands down, AT some of the best amps.
All that only speaking for vintage style guitars, going for blues, country, classic rock tones.

Thanx for the reply. I think I get your point know.

So the best possible scenario to replace a real amp would be to have GR4 for speakers and IK's amps. I have GR4 and some other ampsims, but I was considering IKs stuff lately because of the group buy. Would you recommend me to buy IKs ampsims?

A little OT, what is your all time favorite amp(real one)?

Basically that's my view, yes, purely subjective.

Re IK sims, yes, with the current GB it's a no brainer imho.
Remember to buy AT Fender if you want to go that route, it's the only one not available as a freebie afaik.

And re favourite amp, it really depends on the job, I'd have to name at least ten.
As a compromise let me name two desert island amps I own myself, between those two I could do all the essential tones in my style :
-- Mesa Heartbreaker, rare, very complex, extremely flexible, ideal studio amp
-- Peavey Classic 50/212, ideal working man's live amp, cheap, equally at home in small clubs and on big stages (maybe with an additional cab), indestructable and has one of the smoothest transitions between clean and scream I've ever heard if you use your guitar's pots and a good boost in front, the '60s/'70s way.

And to cheat further :-o , some amps on my wishlist for the future:
-- Matchless C30, ideally HC30 with reverb
-- a point to point Plexi, either vintage or a good 3rd party model
-- a Fender VibroKing
Well, you can dream  (and even save ... ), I guess ...

I don't have an argument  I'm just spoiled and bratty ;) I like all my colored eggs in one basket. I can't be bothered to lean over my guitar every ten seconds to dig out the best VSTs for compression, reverb, delay, flanger, etc. etc. When I'm mixing (ya, like that EVER happens) then I can be more selective.

Ease of use is why I end up using Guitar Rig 4 the most these days  There's no real logical justification. It's just easier and more fun (i.e. immediate) when everything is inside the same wrapper.

In one post on the infamous Jimi Hendrix Edition thread I mentioned Big Muff Pi, Boss BF-2, MXR M-117 flanger, and MXR Phase 90. Maybe I can repeat that success again here...
So what I'd like to see in the next AmpliTube installment is the Boss CE-2 Chorus (considered to be the gold standard of chorus pedals), an Echoplex, Smallstone phaser, Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger, Musitronics Mu-Tron III, and amps from Hi-Watt, Orange, and HH Electronic.

One thing I feel is good to point out, in the being nit-picky department, in generally I like IK's fx better. Sure, there are some exceptions but some of the fx in GR4 are just unusable! The tremolo(s) are weak, the octaver is horrid, and many of the dist/stomps (fuzz being the worst) are cheesy at best! ymmv, but that is how I'm seein' it these days.

I wasn't arguing, I was explaining...there is no argument to be had. And no I don't argue just to stir the pot thank you very much ;)

C'mon now...you DO! I've seen you work that magic in other threads. It's ok. You like a little tension and you like to belabor the point sometimes. Doesn't mean you don't make good points too. Your long (and sometimes self-indulgent) posts speak for themselves.

Just callin' 'em like I see 'em! As long as it's entertaining I'll play along :D

OK, so it's about convenience.
Still better than digging around in the dirt on the rehearsal room floor to find that long lost pedal, or having to light a fire behind my Heartbreaker to be able to decipher that trendy dark gray on black lettering on the backside ... :P
Serious again, if it helps improve the sound I'm willing to jump through many hoops, in the real world I haven't found a one stop manufacturer for my guitar stuff either.
While I bet 2010's ampsims will make our current ones look pretty old and dated (not in a vintage way  ) I'm pretty sure there never will be a single ampsim including all the best models available, we better get used to combining component XY from sim A with component YZ from sim B, this situation will likely not change in the future.

All good choices! But can we throw in a new Tubscreamer stomp, an updated AC30 (call it Mk II or whatever), a Marshall JTM, and maybe a Supro Thunderbolt? If IK really wants to get crazy, I've always wanted an Electro-Harmonix Microsynth.

Nah, I want the next AT to be boutique. All the newer expensive pedals and such that you see advertised in mags all the time but nobody can afford!

Such as?

I think there is one called a trainwreck or something like that, but I don't remember all the names  Blackstar, is that one of them?? Whatever one john mayer uses would be something of interest. Cab preferences are of the 1x12 department for me as I feel they can cut in the mix best (plenty of 4x12's) and pedals? I have no clue ! So many of them, but the usual suspects would be something that really compliments the heads/cabs in a special way (vs the highly usable but done screamer) Tremolos and Rotar emus are always of interest (with special care given to a mono or stereo setup).

I'd say forget fuzz, and classic amps, either improve the ones you got (not saying anything is wrong with them) or just something different.

if that's how you see it, personally I good do without your judgment...forgive me for being me, but that reads more as if I'm a troll and that's unwaranted.
