Ad0 - my problem is that X11 won't start up at all, it just bounces away in the dock without ever launching properly...
Fidelity - how do you use Xquartz instead of X11? Any chance you could post a method for what you're talking about? I'm still a bit of a newbie when it comes to this stuff in OS X

All you need to do is download and install it; it'll take over for X11 (until you reinstall X11 from the Mac OS CD).mustgroove wrote:how do you use Xquartz instead of X11? I've already installed 2.4.1alpha3, that's what seems to have caused my problems unfortunately...

Try the 2.4.1 beta at the bottom of that page. If that doesn't work, reinstall X11 from your SL CD.mustgroove wrote:I've already installed 2.4.1alpha3, that's what seems to have caused my problems unfortunately...

The beta seems to have fixed my X11 hanging issue, but wacvst still doesn't show up in my plugins folder... Live scans it for a while but then it doesn't show up in the list at all...
I've tried the launching X11 before Live trick too, to no avail...

Did you do the SetFile trick? Is the name in the content.plist file (within wacVST) *exactly* the same (capitalization and all) as the dll's filename without the .dll? Remove any spaces or characters other than a-z/1-9 from it if you've tried everything else mentioned here and it still doesn't work.mustgroove wrote:The beta seems to have fixed my X11 hanging issue, but wacvst still doesn't show up in my plugins folder... the setfile trick didn't work unfortunately... and yes the plist files have all be edited appropriately, with the .dll extension removed.
Fidelity - would you mind PMing me your email address? If it's cool I'd like to email you my wacvst.vst file for you to double check on your system... if it's working on your system then obviously something else is awry on mine

I can't make wacvst work on my snow leopard system (laptop) either...but then again, I can't even make winecfg run! Something's horribly wrong with my X11 install...and even beforehand when it was opening, wacvst didn't work. I tried the file you sent me with 0.2 and 0.3 with both standard x11 and two different versions of xQuartz (alpha/beta) and even tried a trick I used before (swapping x11 and xQuartz filenames)...no luck.

thanks for trying
looks like it's definitely a snow leopard issue of some kind, whether it's X11 or something else snow leopardy

Got it downloaded, and installed everything and followed all the steps, but unfortunately couldn't make it to work. I'm running 10.5.8 and tried it in Reaper. It seems to acknowledge the wacvst file but doesn't add it to the list.

Hi all,
I downloaded the latest wacvst, and installed wine.app (the pre-built version from kronenberg.org). My X11 always runs without any problems (i'm on OS X 10.5.7)
I just tried to open it up in Ableton Live ( 7.0.18 ) but the plug doesn't appear in the vst plugin list. I've tried the terminal trick as well without success.
Could anybody who has had success with this describe the procedure in detail and with examples? that would be a great help to some of us i'm sure.
thanks;)

So here's what happens for me:
After configuring wacvst to go get the wine build inside the wine.app i installed and edited the config file to have my vst plug recognized, i created a WinVST folder in /library/audio/plugins/ and put the edited wacvst.vst in there.
I went to Ableton Live's prefs, activated the custom vst folder thingie and designated my newly created WinVST folder, and had it scanned. At this point, X11 opens but wacvst still doesn't appear in the plugins list. I tried several restarts (system and software), nothing helped 'til now.
A detailed walkthrough (think of me as the dumber brother of the dumbest guy you've ever met) and also example config.plist etc. ... would be a great help for some of us to isolate various issues already.
Anyway, this is THE project of the year if we get it running, there are so much plugins that i bought for PC and that i'd like to run on my mac.
So wether we get it to run or not, thanks for the effort already dear developer!
