yeah I don't know how I missed that, but I think it's true
I think we need to stop confusing the desire for more and better tools with the tendency to distract ourselves from making music with gear collection. The two are very different but related things for me, but I don't understand why the phrase "the software you don't have is the one that sounds best" keeps coming up. I have a clear personal favorite and each time I demo another it vindicates my decision. One day my idea might change, but that's got probably more to do with progress than anything else.
But alas I admit....gear ho' I love discussing gear, tweaking gear, exploring updates and upgrades :help: I admit it with little or no shame :D

you're the one that's confusing things, sorry you don't understand the concept, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't hold true for many people. I have said it in dozens of threads and this is the only thread ever where anyone took exception with it. I'm not trying to start anything (I think you are though) but I honestly think the only reason you don't understand it is because you don't want to. The reason I say this because when you said you didn't understand it before I explained how you erred in your interpretation of my post as did Jan. Yet here once again you still have made the same mistake, if I say it again will you try to understand it?

It has nothing to do with liking your sound, it's indeed human nature....again I never said anything about liking what you have, in fact let me say it one more time...it has nothing to do with liking what you have or your personal favorite. It's about growth and my attempt to explain to the op (who has not come back after starting this thread) that it's common to move from one thing to another and imho the best way as I stated later might be to go with freebies first so he could learn what he wants and doesn't want.

That statement says to me, "maybe one day I'll change my mind but I really do not need to grow anymore". Why you have to say we have to stop confusing things is not even on target and is beyond me. I will keep growing, two years ago I wouldn't even think about re-amping. But you know what? I kept my mind open and listened to people here. I grew and now I have sims in my computer, there was a time I was content with just a boogie half stack, years later a sansamp, years later a pod2.0, years later an xt live, years later sims. I'm damn proud of growing, admitting I was wrong in the past and as a result I have benefited tremendously. I still have all the old gear, I still love it and in fact have a greater appreciation of that gear. You see it's also about a fresh perspective because ear fatigue is real.

Maybe instead of arguing the point and telling us it isn't true how we feel perhaps you should look at others as being on the same level as you and try to understand what they feel. Who knows, you might actually learn something from me. You can learn something from everyone at every age on every level.

I do not believe that you never experienced this phenomenon in your life (but maybe not with music), again it's not about what you like, it's about growing, perspective and human nature

oh and btw, even if you don't agree or understand it I still have right to state my opinion...one person decided to tell me that it was not right for me to post that.

Hink, since when does growth equate changing tools? I honestly ask that question. Did Di Vince not grow because he stayed with simple chisels, paint and charcoal? His growth came from exploring different subjects and art forms. In many other art form you start with a basic set of tools and the growth comes from what you make of them, not changing them. Am I not growing because I've had the same guitar since 1980? Of course not. The guitar I use is irrelevant as is the amp or amp modeler you use.

The best amp modeler is the amp modeler that you use to make music.

The next amp modeler is the one you covet because it is human nature to collect and hoard.

Those two things have nothing to do with each other except they both have amp modeler as the subject.

that statement is so ridiculous...you put words in my mouth and once again try to tell me how to feel. Not everyone grows the same way as you, not everyone thinks like you...I was merely explaining a different perspective that others might have to help you understand...you clearly do not wish to understand, just dictate. Man that is way out there, I'll learn and grow my way and you learn and grow your way okay? That post imho is utter nonsense.

One question I dont even need the answer for, how do you know Da Vinci couldn't of grown even more had he tried other tools? There is no answer except it's a very lame point to try and make. That was 500 years ago if I'm not mistaken and has nothing to do with the subject, maybe had he had the tools that are available today they would of inspired him even more.

That does tell me a lot about your opinion of me though, trying to tell me how I really think. Pure arrogance and elitism that's all. Wow I can't believe you posted that

edit: I didn't say my point was the only way to grow, but it is one of mine and I'm sure many others

Hink wrote:I find it very relaxing now to just start messing about with my POD or sims and creating tones and just jamming. Often I find myself going back to the days of old and doing convoluted things just to see how 'ideas' (or daydreams) I had in those days really work. Often I find myself finding something fun and just getting lost in it for a while but when push comes to shove I never return to that tone.
I share that sentiment. I too have done less and less songwriting and am more inclined to just play for self-therapy and enjoyment. Anyway, my wife stop being impressed with me a long time ago and I'm not sure that becoming a rock star is in the cards for me this go 'round. Seems to me that the last thing the world needs from me is yet another, "Hey, check me out on [insert social networking website here] and listen to my latest tracks." But to those who still find the motivation to do it, my hats off to you and I hope you keep going with it. For me, motivation has become elusive :help: I hope it comes back. I'd still like to complete an album someday. Just to say I did it.

Sometimes, buying new sounds acts as inspiration to get me back into it. It's working less and less though. I've got so many sounds now that the new ones don't impress me as much. The other day I contacted a guy online to ask about how he got such a gorgeous piano sound and he said it came from Sonik Synth 2 and I realized....ohh, I already have that

Well, there ya go!

OK, well you can justify your gear lust your way, and I mine. I never told you how to think, I just point out that your statement doesn't follow logic. It just plain and simply does not. That's not my opinion, it just is regardless of what someone else told you an a forum. It's one of those empty statements like "everything happens for a reason" that mean nothing. Sounds pithy though. Hope that works for you.

Let me break it down a bit so you can understand why I point this out.

The best amp modeler (an opinion so subjective)

...is the one you don't have. (fact, so objective)

So you are saying that everyone's opinion (based on the word "The" instead of a word like "My") is that they think some tool they don't have is the best. Hink, that's telling people how they think. I'm just pointing out basic logic. I can point to the false nature of your statement by being happy with the tools I choose to use and I own. Look at my statement compared to yours:

"In my opinion IK Multimedia currently makes the best amp modeler software and I own it."

See?

Hink, do you notice that so many of these threads end up as arguments with the common denominator you?

hey that's it attack me instead of a simple "point taken"...actually with over 15,000 posts and many about guitars it's only a small percentage that ends up like this but it's logical that I would be in more debates. This is not an argument or a debate though, it was an explanation and you can't see that or accept it. I cannot argue about how I feel or do things nor can I argue you how you feel or do things. Just because it's logical to you does not mean it's logical to me or others, either way I really do not care. I really have nothing more to say

oh and yes I do see, I see quite clearly now...thanx

Christ All Mighty!
This thing has got a shit-ton of gain. And this is free?:hihi:
I think I just retired my PODFarm... which I love.

TSE X30 is mad! I like it even better than LE456! Well, it is better to have them both as different flavors! Man this freeware rocks! Tons of gain but sweet sweet sound! This is brand new thing. I donated in a heartbeat. Check it out even if you're not metalhead.

I stepped away to Boston, so I'm sorry to respond to old posts.

@hibidy - Glad you mentioned Bad Cat, I saw American Hi-Fi in Boston and they were using Bad Cats and sounded great so first thing I thought was "I have to put Bad Cat in the suggestion box!"

@Dean - nice clip! Mind if I re-host and post at some point? I like seeing/hearing things using our stuff in a unique way.

Post

I will keep on using my IK stuff, only.

Greetings,

I thought about you and BERFAB and a couple others but I was in town for such a short time with a full agenda. I should be back around March. I would love to meet up with some folks for sure. I should have just suggested the show to anybody interested in the band and at least had some time there. Hindsight 20/20 :)
