I use stacked recording in Cubase all the time, so I typically have several versions of a part to begin with. Nothing easier than exchanging a messed up bar for a good version, and with short crossfades the ringing out of chords in the fingerpicking example will not be compromised at all.
Any pitch correction I've had the dubious pleasure to try yet introduces ugly artifacts as soon as you're pitching more than a quartertone, depending on material.
Melodyne currently is no exception, it's not better than VariAudio, Autotune & Co. So I sold my plugin, VariAudio is good enough for me to do some subtle correcting.
With anything more drastic its "go back, Jack, do it again" here.
As soon as somebody comes out with an algorithm that reduces artifacts considerably I'll be the first in line to buy.
Imho DNA is the answer to a question nobody has asked, sonic quality is the real frontier.
