Just popped in to say that I'm definitely OUT this month
I may get pissed off and angry about things from time to time, but I just can't do angry music. I think the only other theme month that I purposely missed was punk, for the same reason.
In truth, I've listened to the offerings so far, and with the exception of Folderol and his wonderful 'tongue-in-cheek' and Laura with a perfectly crafted song, I don't want to listen to any more anger-related stuff. I won't even get as far as voting .... it wouldn't be fair on anyone.
As the original ancient hippy I wish you all peace and goodwill .... and I hope you all calm down for next month ...
maybe Scoops will get everyone doing covers of The Carpenters or the New Seekers, just to cheer us up for Christmas

I did see My Bloody Valentine at The Warehouse in Leeds in 1990 or so. Massively loud. They were also one of the most po-faced set of c**ts I've ever seen on a stage. To be fair, I'd been drinking all day and I doubt they even knew the chords let alone the words to 'Freebird'. Never said a word to the audience though.

Nikp2000 : bobbleheads
Reminds me of "Like Wow Wipeout" by the Hoodoo Gurus mixed with the chorus of "The Real Thing" by Russell Morris. Both are great songs. The guitar sound was suitably gritty, and the vocal was well done. The idea of a "bobble-head" sounds random.
Laguna Rising : Timewaste
Wow. I'm reminded of the work on some of Bill Bruford's solo albums where the female vocals annoyed me because they wrecked otherwise stellar musical performances. I really like the time signature changes, and the angry guitar with the dicky Farfisa organ sounds (especially the salsa cabaret polka section). If you immersed Jethro Tull into an acid bath, they would probably sound like this. The vocals are menacing. I won't be messing with you (backs away slowly).
Gamma Ut : Purple Pain
OK - this angers me, because the production and sounds are all off the scale excellent, and the scrapy percussive bits get frustrating. The vocals are really well conceived. Rubber robot vocal cords are the perfect foil for the heavy industrial synth. The best part was the five second quote from John Cage's 4"33' at the end.
Echo Voodoo & Steever : Who's watching the kids
The guitar and drums here are how I envisage an ANGRY track. The vocals were great, and the echoey vocal bits were also sensational. \M/ Really catchy commercial track. "Makes me sick - Whatta ya doin!?"
The guitar solo lacked a dive bomb, but that was the only missing ingredient. Fadeout on the cymbals was interesting at the end. I wanted to see the Iron Maiden 12 minute version of this.
Jerru : All Hail The King
Heavy rock, but the vocal was a little laid back. But the sentiment of the lyric was angry with its intended irony. Drums and guitar were well produced, especially the ascending build around 2:00 towards the end.
Solium : Je rumine lentement toute ma haine.
The title suggests you chew on all your hatred slowly. This in itself is a great concept. The machinegun drumming and the hideous distortion were annoying, but still pretty controlled. I would have liked more of a build, but your anger is irrefutable. Si je disais que vous avez eu un beau corps vous le tiendriez contre moi?
D.H. Miltz - Police Stuff
I liked the stop breaks at 0:25 - very silly. The guitar could have been more "in your face" - it seems treble-muted. "All I need is 45 seconds more" was pointed (I'm still laughing), and the upkey into the coda was priceless. Not just stuff. Completely stuffed, I'd say. A keeper!

I doubt there'll be a 12 minute Iron Maiden version, but Steever tells me he's thinking of recording his own vocals for this one. He can kinda sound a bit like Ozzy if he tries, or so he says.
