Yes. It's true. "A company called Volomedia just got the Patent Office to grant them such exclusive rights." Imagine having to pay for the right to broadcast your own music over the Internet. Podcasters and podcast listeners are positively threatened by this development. However, EFF and the law firm of Howrey, LLP are willing to fight on our behalf, but they need our help. Read on to find out how you can do just that.

For every specific thing that one does on the Internet, there exists a small organized group of persons whose sole objective is to figure out a way of owning what one does, and how one does it.

I might get a patent for serialised conversations over IP - then I could pwn KVR!!

It's a joke, it really is. It should never have been granted based on prior art. they don't have a leg to stand on really, unless Volomedia invented streamed distribution, which I seriously doubt, and there would be precedents dating back to before the days of HTTP ruling the net..

just read the report now, and agree EFF wholeheartedly. MP3.com comes immediately to mind, even napster (tho that wasn't 'subscription' based as such).. what tosh.

here's a good one.. MP3.com from 1997: http://web.archive.org/web/199712211514 ... //mp3.com/
