Good take on customer information. :tu:

.. I only hope they don't fix those transparent sliders, I love 'em.

Thanks LiteOn.

I'm currently generally off of the paid Cubase update ride but I welcome any maintenance updates. I'm VERY curious what the next paid update will look like though.

I highly suspect that the Reaper's & Studio One's of the world might drive some really cool innovation into Cubase 6. May be wishful thinking but I'd go 70-30 on that being the case.

They'll need some really innovative or new and really practical new stuff to make me pay to update to v6 when it hits.

Hopefully more fixes for the track inspector notepad! I know we were all waiting on tenterhooks for that one. :hihi:

But seriously, it's nice to have an update. :)

I didn't know anyone uses notepad? I never use mine :?

I do agree completely. Though I think they made a huge step with their release 5, there's still a lot to improve (well, what a great insight...).

I simply hope the innovations are mainly focused on the host's core functions rather than just adding more/new plugs.

Sometimes it serves as a per-track ToDo list.

Though, I rather would like to see them simply providing any (arranger) object (clips, events) with a text property (or more general text tags).

Personally I cant see myself being too concerned about future major upgrades for quite a while.
Cubase 5 has everything I need plus a lot more. Any new features in Cubase 6 would have to be pretty special to get me to give Steinberg more money especially considering Reaper (my 2nd choice) is rapidly closing the feature gap and costs nothing in comparison (even the pro license is far cheaper than Cubase).

Maintenance updates are always welcome of course.

I think many users feel that way after v5. If they recognize that we'll see a focus on more practical core things in v6 like multiple mix snapshots and multi-out instrument tracks and those types of things that can "improve" the whole experience.

Stuff like that doesn't make a huge marketing splash but we all know we'd love to have more of that kind of thing. :) So I hope they're paying attention.

That's the kind of stuff I'd pay to get. Not more instruments.

Both of those statements represent exactly how I feel about not only the Cubase 5 update, but the Live 8 update as well. I tried to sell both of those updates to myself but failed. This says alot because I'm always the first guy to open my wallet for a new update. Both of those updates just didn't add any great "core" improvements to warrent shelling out $200.00. Very dissapointing.

Curious, I have Reaper and Cubase 5 but really can't stand Reaper. What in Reaper's current functionality could drive innovation in Cubase? What do you find much better in Reaper than C5?

Thanks,

C

I wouldn't personally pay for that in Cubase now but I know it would be attractive to others. Take the C5 update... multi-stem-track rendering is essential to a professional studio that exchanges files with other studios. I would have updated to 5 just for that so there were a few purely practical things there.

They really need to backtrack through some older FR's and do much more of that kind of really practical thing (imo) instead of more flashy stuff.

That one had been requested for years... and frankly, it still needs some work.

Of course, the new features have to be convincing to get my money, too.

On the other hand, I follow the hosts forum with great interest - especially those X-vs.-Y-threads that not derail. :hihi: However, after all those years with Cubase (I think I started from 2.8 PC) I yet don't feel the need to jump hosts. In the end, it's just different flavors with some original or more or less unique features destined for being "adapted" by competitors sooner or later.

The screaming for more/better functions and workflow enhancements wouldn't stop anyway.

I think it (and some others) may have already done so. As I said above, users had been requesting a means to easily selectively export multiple instrument stems to audio for years. Reaper did that really easily from day one and some users pointed that out to Steinberg on the forums.

The question was: "Why can't "we" still not do that necessary thing?"

About a year and a half later Cubase 5 finally added it. Thank God.

I do think competition drives "change" like that so ... go Reaper. Only a hardcore Cubase fanboi (not you, I don't mean you) would suggest that there's nothing in Reaper they'd like to see in Cubase... and vice versa.

As I said in the other thread (for example), I'd not object to adding a custom tool bar icon to click on my macros to run them. It's not at the top of my list for Cubase though.

Another fantasy example that will never happen: If Steinberg gave me access to the Cubase API via PC/VB I'd literally go nuts scripting things I'd use. :hihi:

You can make a MIDI Device Panel with lots of buttons on them triggering different notes, output via Midi Yoke to Bome's Midi Translator which would convert to the keycommands assigned to the macros/any other key commandable target.

Worth a thought.
