IMO VariAudio and batch export alone were worth the upgrade price from Cubase 4.
As for BeatDesigner and Loopmash I haven't used them so much.

I would like to see the older synths and FX from SX3 brought up to date (rather than dumped which is very possible) and the Halion One content expanded but I agree Cubase doesn't need any more flashy toys added.
It will be interesting to see what Steinberg do next because with just a few minor feature improvements (and the eradication of any bugs) Cubase could very well become the ultimate DAW.
However, it seems that since Yamaha took over Steinberg they are trying to be more *hip* or cool or whatever, just look at those cheesy marketing videos. They should keep the cheese factor for the Sequal crowd and adopt a more modest/serious approach for Cubase. :hihi:

Bad news indeed. :(
5.0 was great, and I haven't even fired up those loop toys once.
There were a few bugs, not too many, and a few "features" that look unfinished, annoying, but only one or two showstoppers.
The (almost) perfect Cubase was in reach, only a few bugfixes away.
But then they let it slide ...
Looks like all they are doing is work on Yamaha integration and support for the latest MS/Apple brainf*rts instead of fixing realtime export, workspaces, spiking, Reverence still is unuseable with 3rd party impulses and so on.
If it weren't for the transparent faders I'd feel cheated. :P

This observation might be true. And, expanding the customer base is an imperative that just has been forced by the competition increasing dramatically during the last years. But this is going to be too much OT.

I think the Yamaha take over has been of significant benefit for the Cubase/Nuendo product line in terms of quality and options. Especially the total integration seems to be a promising approach.

I haven't used Reverence once on any projects, Its quite the CPU hog even on a QuadCore. If they can get that down I would feel more comfortable with it, its a great sounding plug but just seems too unstable at the moment (for me at least).

As for the transparent faders I don't even have that update installed. I did at one stage but went back to the previous version, luckily my project files were still openable. :phew:

All being genuine valid points, but I think one simply cannot expect all those fixes from just a supra minor release (5.1.1). If 5.1.1 means "Windows 7 certified" and that means improved multi-core usage I would be more than happy.

I for one do like the Yamaha integration stuff, happy CC121 & 816X user over here. :)

Thanks,

I think it (and some others) may have already done so. As I said above, users had been requesting a means to easily selectively export multiple instrument stems to audio for years. Reaper did that really easily from day one and some users pointed that out to Steinberg on the forums.

The question was: "Why can't "we" still not do that necessary thing?"

About a year and a half later Cubase 5 finally added it. Thank God.

I do think competition drives "change" like that so ... go Reaper. Only a hardcore Cubase fanboi (not you, I don't mean you) would suggest that there's nothing in Reaper they'd like to see in Cubase... and vice versa.

As I said in the other thread (for example), I'd not object to adding a custom tool bar icon to click on my macros to run them. It's not at the top of my list for Cubase though.

Another fantasy example that will never happen: If Steinberg gave me access to the Cubase API via PC/VB I'd literally go nuts scripting things I'd use. :hihi:
Thanks for the info! Yes open up the Cubase API and I'm all over that. Also, give me a Kore/Reaper/Phrazor like instrument stack in Cuabse.

HAHA! not a Cubase (or anything else) fanboi but just like stuff that works for me. I used to do a lot of orchestration and Cubase is great for that. Used Logic and DP when I had Mac's years ago but it was at a time when Apple was really dragging their feet getting faster machines out the door. So I switched to PC and Cubase at that time to be able to handle more VSTi's.

Yes I agree it is a benefit to Steinberg and could lead to great things if done properly. I like the integration approach and would love to be able to afford a MR816 (either of them).
I think I will have to settle for a CI2 however.. :hihi:

:hihi: very nice.. how do you find them?

That blurb of theirs translated means "we have to do some snow leopard/w7 stuff so we will, when we get around to it" and "more integration with our hardware so you'll buy it" I realize this has already been pointed out but you know my love/hate relationship with the "borg".

@Susiwong: I agree. Aamof, I think I will be downgrading to 4.52 for all of future needs as I find the workflow in 5 and some of those issues you pointed out maddening. Of course I'm in the minority and most people love 5.

I'm still on Studio 4; meets my needs and then some.

Not from 5.1.1 per se, but from a whole year apparently wasted as far as bugfixing goes.

So you are that guy ?
Glad it works for you, but wouldn't writing those drivers be Yamaha's job ?
Imho Steinberg should concentrate on fixing bugs that affect all users (read: not hardware specific).

lotus2035, Reverence is not really a CPU killer here by any stretch, but it has Alzheimer's disease with 3rd party impulses, that's my main problem with it.
Finally acknowledged by Steinberg in April, now November's almost over.

You complain about Alzheimer ? Forget about it. 8)

Maybe I should give it another try then.

hibidy,
even if it doesn't always sound that way I'm a big fan of Cubase and especially C5.
What bothers me is Steinberg's complete indifference towards big fat bugs.
Think for a moment about the quality consciousness many freeware devs show, take Bootsie to only name one well known example among many. :tu:

You keep rubbing it in :bang:

:hihi:

I should have been smarter as the upgrade was all about the fluffy new stuff. Completely my fault! (though I have to keep complaining about it)

Not sure, but I vaguely remember 5.1 reportedly bringing down CPU usage considerably.
Personally I mostly prefer algo verbs, but currently I'm doing some mixes of live acoustic music where convolution has advantages and I had to dig out the almost forgotten SIR 1011 instead of using Reverence ...
