Cubase 5.1.1 to be released middle December 2009

I think its kinda sad people are already talking about Cubase 6.
isn't Cubase 5 has enough MAIN features? anything they will add will only be small features that might and should make a better workflow and imo should be free.
I never used another DAW, but if Cubase 6 will come out with only small features, i will most likely stick to C5 or even move into a another DAW.

I always like things to be clean and clear. so my biggest issue with Cubase is actually that it feels messy. i always got the feeling like many things are not finished and neglected. i dont think anyone can say Generic Remote is a clear feature. anyone that uses it has spent much more time than he could if it was simple and clear.
Making a new midi device and a GUI for it arent simple as they could and should be.
Even the media bay aint that great imo. and why does it has to open a midi track every time im demoing a preset? why isnt one enough? and why do i need to see effects there if i can demo them?
I guess its my luck that i dont use presets that much. but if i do, i always use the instrument browser.

My point is, that before they going to develope new features, they should go way way back and improve old ones, delete unused ones or at least improve the setup for them.

1) All editing (sample and audio and midi) done in the ONE main window

2) Better elastic audio (also done in the main windoow)



and the most important......

3) Being able to rearrange track order in the mixer

happy CC121 & 816X user over here.

very nice.. how do you find them?

Built quality is great on both units. At least by price, the CC121 is not a steal (*), and just by spec comparison with other options (Presonus etc.) I was hesitating to get it first.
Once I got around to put my hands on all of them, it wasn't really a choice anymore. Yes, I'm a build quality addict (back down to earth: they're really solid and well made). In terms of integration it does exactly what I expected/hoped for. I mostly use and like the fader, the controller knob and the eq encoders in quick control (great!!) and send-level mode. But the absolute kick ass function are 2 of the 4 user-definable buttons I use to mute/unmute the control room monitors and headphone channels.

The 816 was quite a different story: originally I was looking for a decent headphone amp because I thought this was the weakest part of my monitoring chain (ESI MAYA44e). Soon I realized decent sound needs decent money in this realm as well, and I quickly found myself in the price range of the 816X. After kvring and gearslutting some evenings I decided to go for it. Even if I still use it for D/A only it was a phantastic buy, a real bang for the buck. My entire monitoring chain has made a real step forward - and I got a really, really good VST reverb on top.

Not sure, but I vaguely remember 5.1 reportedly bringing down CPU usage considerably.

That must be it then..I suppose I will just wait for the new update..

Yes, I see your point. And I guess my lenience is merely due to the fact that I'm not very much affected by the dysfunctions you've listed (abolutely no spiking over here, haven't real-time export needed yet, never used Reverence).

I for one do like the Yamaha integration stuff, happy CC121 & 816X user over here.

Who says it isn't? I have no idea, did the SB guys said it's their job? I only can take a guess: the (real) drivers are done by Yamaha, all those Cubase extensions by Steinis. Of course, both endeavours have to be synced in time.

Imho Steinberg should concentrate on fixing bugs that affect all users (read: not hardware specific).

Yep, I absolutely agree. Fixing major bugs is a simple necessity owned all customers, especially the loyal ones. I'm really keen on seeing what will happen to THE bridge!

As far as fixes are concerned, the general consensus is that cubase 5 is great, and that they will "take it" regardless....that coupled with the borgs arrogant attitude means "forget about it" I'd love to be wrong about that and 5.1.1 bring all kinds of fixes but mostly we don't live in that world.

Sounds like my personal list... especially #3. I would add a better facility to show hide tracks like PT or S1 and (please...) hide tracks in the arrange page instead of the toggle track list thing that isn't even exposed to key commands.

Bad news indeed.
5.0 was great...The (almost) perfect Cubase was in reach, only a few bugfixes away.
But then they let it slide ...

Not to forget a VST bridge in 64 that doesn't work 90% of the time correctly without crashing compare to jbridge that seems to work 90% of the time (reading what people says, I didn't had the time to try it myself).

How can you sell something that is supposed to work and it's not, here we call that "false advertising".

Anyway, I don't see the reason to talk about Cubase6 when Cubase5 is not even delivering everything it was supposed to deliver. We don't have to pay as customers for their mistakes all the time. I hope they wake-up sometime soon. I'm tired of feeling rip-off by super upgrades that don't impress me that much.

Give me a DAW that works as advertise and I'll be a happy camper.

Cubase 5.0 was released on January 27, 2009 (about 10 months ago) so... it's not unreasonable to speculate on the next release which is probably not too far away.

Lovely, but it would still make more sense imnsho to just have it available on the mixer. I feel more comfortable there than the project arranger for that kinda thing. It's a long-time feature request that I'm guessing will never come (or at the expense of something else)
