Things I'd like to see in the someday C6...

1) All editing (sample and audio and midi) done in the ONE main window

2) Better elastic audio (also done in the main windoow)



and the most important......

3) Being able to rearrange track order in the mixer

Just as a warm up, application consistency only:
- track presets for all track types
- instrument tracks supporting multi-out VSTi
- cut/copy & paste for mixer sends (a phantastic example for an UAARGGGGHHHHH-case)
- rearranging mixer channels in the mixer
- presets for external fx routings
- offer standard export option for all major preset sections
- add global insert/send effect activate/deactivate



AND: clean up the messy and cluttered way how preferences are stored in the file system, the current way is simply a shame!

Nevertheless, I think cubase is great.

FYI, I have 4 also but it's taking me a long long lazy LONG time rendering all my old files and some of the new ones to get things prepared for "redoing"

If I go C4 and ignore c5 it will be an even bigger undertaking because anything I've done in 5 is not backward compatible. Getting off topic now so I'll jump off the c-bashing and allow the goodness of 5.1.1 to shine through, whenever it's released next year.....

That looks pretty similar to my own wishlist - after the major bugs have been squeezed.
Add more systemwide settings (e.g. for workspaces and VST connections), overriding project settings if desired, as well as controller mapping like Studio One (based on the plugin in focus) and we're talking.
More Windows conformity wouldn't hurt either, i.e. in case of multiple selected channels any changes should be applied to all selected channels.
And then, I could live without the "delete key deletes track" feature.
But still, bugfixing before new features.
I wouldn't complain if we got no new feature at all before C6 but stability improvements instead.

You mean, all those files being stored into only one folder? Since I always liked the basic project's root and sub folder layout I haven't looked/tried for some years. Hence, I might like to ask: can't you set the audio folder freely, at least? What is 'info', btw?

May I also ask why you want to keep all project files just in one folder? I'm a <ctrl>-<alt>-S-guy and usually end up with lots of .cpr-files. Therefore I prefer to have all the non-cpr stuff stored elsewhere. I even create a 'settings' folder for (in) each project (folder).

You can make it vanish by clicking the 'x'-icon. The perceivable speed for restoring the full size VSTi view would not differ between the two ways.

Well... that's not entirely true. Some things certainly aren't, like C5 specific plugins that C4 isn't licensed for (and perhaps some other things), but *.xml archive exports of C5 projects translate pretty well into C4... and to a much lesser degree even to SX3.

Try it and let us know what gets left out... besides the obvious stuff.

OTOH, I've never tried to load C5 plugs in C4. The C5 dongle license may allow it if you have both (C4 is VST3 also) so maybe ... if you have a C5 license...

I mean, I know I am mean - but I mean, what did you mean meant to be mean?

Seriously, the 'X'-thing? I really was serious on that. I practice the same with some other daily apps (UltraEdit for text-files and PDF XChange), when it's about a single open file it doesn't really matter with regard to resize speed.

No joke.

C5: Unlock any track media or tracks that happen to be on lockdown, open all folders so you don't miss any media, "Select All" or just drag/select the entire project. Assuming your track selections follow media selection all of the track panels should be selected. If not just shift-select the track panels.

Menu: File | Export | Selected Tracks

Choose "Reference" for the media in the dialog. Save it.

Open a new C4 project and set the tempo to the same tempo of the C5 project... to keep stuff from moving if you do it later.

C4/SX Menu: File | Import | Track Archive

Import the file and select "All Tracks" in the import dialog.

Most of the C4 project after import will be as just it was in C5 (excluding VSTI rack instrument instances and a few other things that may not translate).

Why? Even on a laptop I prefer the multi-window approach coupled with workspaces over the single-window used in, say, Ableton Live.

1) Everything is in-line and therefore in cotext of the other tracks
2) No worries of "I can't do that in this window I have to switch to another window."
3) Workspace clutter of multiple windows opened.
4) Visual feedback on multi-track editing.
5) The dreaded window resizing problem.

I wouldn't use Live as an example of optimum "one window" layout - not enough track management tools. More like Pro Tools, Logic and/or S1.

So what's the deal with the Mediabay being completely useless from Version 4.5 onwards?

If you use it in Version 4.1, everything plays instantly when browsing files. From Version 4.5, it loads the waveform before playing the file, so you have to wait between 0.5 and 1 second for EACH file to play. And apparently this isn't a problem to them?


I don't get it...what's the point of the Mediabay if it's slower than using the "Import File" menu? Sure you can use it to organize stuff...but if it takes me 10x as long to find an appropriate sound, it's essentially useless. The maddening part is that it didn't used to be that way.
