No it's not. If I could graphically draw it, it would look something like this... all on one track...

Layer1--------- Layer2------- Layer3---------Layer4
Take1 _______Take1_______Take1_______Take1
Take2 _______Take2_______Take2_______Take2
Take3

Best I can do without rambling. :hihi:
they are all in layers until you extract for custom cut/splice re-merge or whatever later on.
Works the same when multitrack comping with multiple layers.
Then push them into 'folder tracks' and/or Revolver tracks (akin to PT's playlists).

Similar thing, different names.

Is this functionality not present in most of the major DAWs now?

Don't ask me, I just play here.

You keep asking me that question and I have no idea. :hihi:

I know PT does similar... probably better. You say Samp does (I believe you) ... that hardly qualifies as most of the major DAW's... only two... so you tell me.

Do they? Sonar, DP, SAW, Logic, Sadie, Cubase, Reaper, FL Studio, Acid Pro? Did I miss any of the majors? I don't know. My demos of most of those that had demos have expired long ago. I do know Cubase doesn't do similar.

If the thread title doesn't read "Revolutionary New Feature That Nobody Else Has"... I don't get the point exactly. There's not any feature war going on in this thread that I can see. Just a discussion of how it works in this particular host... and a discussion of how it might be useful in any host that may have it.

For me, a hardcore Cubase user with nothing like it there... it's an attractive feature that I don't have in anything else I prefer to use.

Thanks Greg.

Yes, I appreciate the discussion of a feature-set that's very useful in today's DAW - so I appreciate this - without all the needless bashing.
Good trend to discuss features that push the industry forward IMO.

From what I've used, Live doesn't really do comping - at all. You can trick it into 'layering' in session mode, but it's not really the same thing.
Sonar has the 'blend' feature, but that was a while back, and I haven't spent time with 8.5 yet.
Reaper? doubtful. Acid? Not really. FL - I don't know. SAW AFAIK, no true comping or layering. Sadie - I don't know.

That's all I got for now... :)

sorry, I was replying to siruisbliss there. The samplitude videos posted showed take management, but the Revolver track watsit was the bit I didn't get.

Nice feature.

I was actually agreeing with your post there when I said "No it's not." As if to say "Caveman is right, no... it's not... the same thing as the vid that was posted."

It looks like I'm saying "no it's not" to your description though. No, I'm, not. :hihi:

Woops! In any case I am now disagreeing with your agreement to my previous disagreement.

:hihi: Good place to end this thread I think.

The dialog box asks me what I want to carry over to the duplicate tracks and I would uncheck playlists and alternate playlists. This way I would have the same plugs and settings but if I make a change on one track's plugs it wouldn't affect the other songs. Also, for archiving, I would be able to go back to each song and have the "finished" mix the way I left it.

Just a thought.

Dan
I hadn't seen this post and I fully agree with this. If playlists or layers or whatever one host chooses to call them could also optionally capture plugin settings independently per layer, that would be nice.

Good point Dan.

OT: It's funny how these kind of feature examination threads point to the "collab is good" music conversation in a kind of ancillary way. No matter how many heads you put together to work on a thing, a different set of heads will do a different (subjectively better) single thing somewhere else. All of the (subjectively) very best features in DAW's are spread across 5-6 different hosts. No group of people or developers can imagine them all, all by themselves.

But really cubase has a very primitive version of that.. lanes. you now, the stuff you get when you do stacked recording.. while you still have to manually mute events in lanes, you can do most of the stuff you can in PT or S1. it is just a little clunky (as usual)
