The only problem with a contest is that I would have to release the synth, wouldn't I?

LOL. This is true. However, I really want this taken care of - so, yes, I am really wasting my time by asking lots of questions and attempting to find artists.

TBH, I am struggling with the notion of doing it myself.

I used to be a graphic design artist and, while not nearly as good as the likes of some of the incredible artists around here, I do know how to make 3D photorealstic backgrounds and such.

It's more a belief thing.

I really didn't think so. I was just thinking about adding a kind of background to the controls layout you have already displayed. And then the "winning design" could be applied, or something. Like I said, I really don't know how skins are actually created and applied and all that! Just a thought! :)

Acidrack really really nice.
this one is nice too Predator
I've not seen Acidrack before - any good?
I love Predator as a synth, but I think the background of the GUI is a little dark imo.

Nice synth. Pretty standard VA fare. I can't say it has anything over Synth1, but in all it's nicely executed.

ArtVera? We know she does top notch work. The questions are how much and is she available at this time?

I know Atvera well. I am looking for a bit more photo realistic. She creates great skins, but they don't tend to look photo-real. In fact, at the moment I am using sliders and knobs she created for the temporary product.

Personally, the photo-realistic thing is getting to be a bit over-rated and over-desired these days.

I've ended up asking myself, "Does it really make a better interface?" I don't think it does.

It amounts to eye candy and because of that I do think it introduces a bunch of junk the eye has to sort out that are not necessary to it function. There's a side of me that likes that sort of thing, I love to see them and I have wasted hours doing it, see the emu of a casio vl-1 I did in skinman, but theres a point where I decided it would just make for a pain the ass GUI to actually use ever for such a simple synth. Do I really need life like full sized faders with a fancy VU to match, does bigger gfx make for bigger sales or price tags when a few simple bars would do the trick? Do I purchase one over the other simple becasue of a picture?

There are certain things when used that should have a high level of photo-realism, wood for example, if the designer can't make it look real or present it so that it is convincing then they should leave it out. Most of the time I find wood ends used in a GUI totally ridiculous because they look fake, good enough is not good enough if it gets included, but they end up in GUI's anyway. Racks ends are another one of those things that end up total over used…Its one things if it was included to help float the eye to the center for the GUI or make the GUI a tab wider etc etc more often then not I imagine they are there for simple reason that they seem to think its cool…which is not a good reason and in my mind works against being cool.

What my point…I don't have one I was just bored :)

I think her graphic art on the Fretted-Synth SaFfron gui is
equal to the best out there. The gradients, colors, layout, spacing, logos, and usability can't be beat. A pleasure just to open it and slap an array of fx
on a soundfont. :)
