Looks like something ratehr strange has happened to the Cycling74 domain. Looks like they've either relocated/renamed without any prior warning or its been hijacked!

It didn't redirect for me, but it certainly looks different. Still a cycling74 site though, at least by appearance.whyterabbyt wrote:Looks like something ratehr strange has happened to the Cycling74 domain. Looks like they've either relocated/renamed without any prior warning or its been hijacked!

Would be a very sucky time to get hacked, eh?
Even if you were joking around, it still does look different.

Currently, to get the beta to work in Live, you also need C74's current beta version of MAX/MSP; Ableton provide the 'editing bridge' and the M4L 'plugins', C74 provide the editing environment and documentation et.c.risome wrote:It will be available from ableton i would think rather than cycling 74
Unless there are going to be two different installations of the MAX/MSP environment, I would assume they'd continue to do it that way. Otherwise you'll have potential version disparities, and redundancy problems for people using both the standalone and M4L.

That's right - Cycling 74 says it will be sold by Ableton. No weird redirect here in London - maybe some weird DNS thing going on with a local ISP rather than Cycling 74?risome wrote:It will be available from ableton i would think rather than cycling 74
EDIT: Google finds Cycling 74 content on the veryhandso.me domain: http://www.google.com/search?rls=en&q=v ... 8&oe=UTF-8
Possibly a staging domain for the main site as the sign-up page you get (well I would get if Safari didn't object to the redirects) is a typical WordPress script.
No change to the Abes' shop, however.

well, its stopped now; new look, right URL. server config issues, maybe. first page I got when it took me there the first time was a login/registration page, which was suspicious to me; classic phishing style.koolkeys wrote:It didn't redirect for me, but it certainly looks different. My 'local ISP' is a Regional Network Operator on the JANET backboneGamma-UT wrote:maybe some weird DNS thing going on with a local ISP rather than Cycling 74?

Hmmm, strange. Maybe just an admin page that was coming up while they were trading out pages or something? Hard to say.
I will say that since rechecking the thread the other day(where I incorrectly assumed that some of Max would be left out), I'm more interested in it and have been messing with the beta. This really is going to be a big deal, and despite the extra cost, will no doubt add infinite value to Live for those who have it. It would be cool if there was a "player only" version that cost less, but no complaints from me.

Good target for DNS cache poisoning thenwhyterabbyt wrote:My 'local ISP' is a Regional Network Operator on the JANET backboneGamma-UT wrote:maybe some weird DNS thing going on with a local ISP rather than Cycling 74?
But nothing so sinister by the looks of it: more likely a Wordpress installation that went a bit screwy for a while. So, if they didn't get hacked before, they can enjoy the thrill of a script kiddie having a go at it now.

FWIW, according to Cycling74:
For users who only own Max for Live, the Max application will have the following limitations:
no built in support for audio and MIDI (Live is used for audio and MIDI I/O)
restrictions on seeing Jitter images in the Max application (Jitter is fully functional inside Live)
no ability to build standalone applications
Nothing too unexpected there, but it answers the question of what is different.
Also, they comment that there may be plans to allow people to commercially distribute their Max devices without the public being able to open them. They say they will make announcements in 2010 related to that. Could be interesting, I guess. Maybe not.

Hmmm, does anyone know anything about this "Max 5.1 runtime" that is supposed to be released soon? It specifically says that it is NOT a M4L runtime.
Is this just what is needed to run general Max applications outside of Max? I guess I've never paid attention to anything but the Pluggo runtime, so this may be my ignorance speaking.
