I know that best sample library is Goliath, but it's way more abov that limit.

Same about Kontakt.

So only two banks came to my mind. Vi.One and Sampletank. DO you know about next or what of that two to choice?

I would need it for "r'n'b" and "pop" - like production. FOr combining with synths.

If you could stretch to $350 for that bundle (which isn't a bad idea, BTW), personally I would go to $380 and get the full kontakt.

Some more rompler options:

Dimension Pro crossgrade -- only $100 for owners of Logic,Digital Performer, Cubase, Nuendo, Pro Tools, Live,Fruity Loops, GarageBand...

That would give you a decent selection (8GB) of sample-based sounds. Plus a couple of freebie banks from cakewalk.

Proteus VX -- free! Not the best sounding, but... well... it sounds like a proteus... and it's free!

Proteus 2000 from DigitalSoundFactory -- $60 download... would be the same content as the Proteus VX freebie, but the DSF package includes a download of Dimension LE (the light version of DimPro)... follow me on this one... for $60 you get the DSF proteus sounds + a few hundred DimLE sounds + you can later upgrade to DimPro for another $100 at the cakewalk store. So if you don't qualify for the DimPro crossgrade above, you could still end up with DimPro + a bunch of proteus sounds for $160.

Follow the link standalone sent, and get Total Workstation for 349 dollars. That's simply amazing value. (I have paid almost three times more for it during the years, and I do not have any regrets.)

If you get VI.One it comes with the Kontakt Player (not the limited freebie from NI, but an unlimited version for use with the VI.One samples). If you live in the US, VI.One is often at $99 at Guitar Center, Music123 or MusiciansFriend.com (all of these are owned by the same parent company). I don't own it, but I've checked it out (and I do own SampleTank 2.5) and it's decent. The samples are more complex than you would get with SampleTank (in terms of velocity layers, round robin, etc.) and the purchase would enable you to purchase Kontakt Crossgrade version, which costs a lot less than the full version of Kontakt.

I have to say I would not buy the suggested Dimension Pro. Why? It's package is a hit and miss collection really. And if the sounds fail, they fail miserably.

You could say that about any product though... The question I would pose is: is DimPro worth $100? I think there's enough useful content to make it worth $100... assuming you can get it for the crossgrade price. VI.one for $100 could be a good deal too, though I've only heard demos, which sound pretty good for a generic rompler. So maybe VI.one + DimPro crossgrade + Sampletank 2L for $300...

Farley - don't suppose you have any libraries already which use Kontakt Player 1 or 2, do you? If so you can get Kontakt 4 crossgrade for $279, which would win hands down imho.

If you don't have it, might be worth trawling ebay / right here for any old product you can get with these players!

Kontakt is great too, and if you're using your own samples, it is more versatile than Sampletank, I think. Yet if you're looking for "overall" sample library with many options to start with, Total Workstation 2 with all five Sampletank-based plug-ins will give you more sounds than Kontakt. Kontakt sounds are larger in terms of megabites. Total Workstation sounds are large enough, and you'll have more options. Also, I would not spend any money on Kontakt alone; I would (actually, I did) save some more and buy Komplete. So my recommendation would be the IK offer now, and Komplete later, if you can afford it.

I just got my Kontakt 4 upgrade and think their library now qualifies as 'awesome.' Yes, it's a bit more, but expandable with other really great libraries.

The VI.ONE library is very comprehensive as well, and not nearly as expensive. Some very expressive stuff there, as well as bread and butter sounds.

the nice thing about going the kontakt route... either up front or down the road (say, VI.one now, then K4 full crossgrade later)... is that if (when) at some point you really need, say, top notch horns, or orchestra, or bass, or drums, or whatever, then kontakt is the platform for that (IMO). Sampletank is a nice package, but not upwardly expandable to the extent that Kontakt is.

Wrong...Big Fish's VI.ONE comes bundled with the Kontakt 2 player, yes. It is in fact slightly less capable than the current Kontakt 4 player. You can, however, use any registered Kontakt 2 player bundled library in the K4 player.

I would suggest IK Sonik Synth. I've thought of (and actually tried) selling it in the past because I hate IK Multimedia and their strategies but in the end I always decide to keep it. It's definitely not the absolute best in terms of sound quality but it's extremely versatile, with any sound you can imagine: orchestral, choirs, guitars, basses, pianos, synths, drums & percussion (acoustic & electronic), ethnic instruments, etc.

I think you can get it for $100 these days.

One more reason to consider VI.one -- it's $100 at musiciansfriend PLUS I just noticed that they're trowing in a mail-in rebate for either First Call Horns or Raging Guitars for free... I own FCH, and while it's a bit dated and not up to par with the latest libraries from Chris Hein, for example, it is most certainly worth a mail-in rebate!

$100 for both of those libraries sounds like a hard deal to beat, IMO. I have no idea about Raging Guitars...
