I'm in the process of trying to put together a parody of popular electronic music such as Breathe Carolina and Kill Paradise, and am having a hard time figuring out how to achieve the vocal effect that's so dominant in almost all tracks by the previously mentioned artists.
Similar to the following link, the first verse by the long hair kid;
I know it's insane amounts of autotune but there seems to be other effects there as well, a filter of some kind.
If anyone can actually sit through the first 40 seconds of the video to get what I'm asking and explain it to me, I'd appreciate it.

its hard to tell from the low quality audio on youtubes, but maybe try using the autotune, then running a light chorus effect over it, then a little bit of delay and reverb. maybe give the delay a bit of a highpass?
try using a vocoder instead of autotune. they can sound a bit more synthetic.
mostly i think it's just the autotune. when it's cranked, it really starts to sound like something different.
Also, as a side comment, I don't necessarily listen to a lot of music with autotuned vocals, but in terms of the amount of people who "front" on it, I didn't see anybody crying "thats not her real voice" when laurie anderson was using a vocoder in the early eighties. I also didn't see anybody getting all grubble bunnied over "work it harder" or whatever, when daft punk put that song out, and that was autotune to the max.
music evolves. hating is a waste of time. This vocal effect is like a genre, and only old boring people hate on entire genres of music.

The one problem I have with that comment is that the tracks you mentioned are great records. Probably the same reason why no-one said anything about Hide & Seek by Imogen Heap. That's just an acapella put through a harmonizer. Why? because it's a beautifully written & inventively crafted composition. But, you do make a valid point, and I tend to agree with it; What's good for one, should be good for the other. But unfortunately, I don't think it is. I fail to see how anyone could defend talentless faux-pop garbage as 'the evolution of music'. If that's the case, then surely we're going backwards?

I think the difference here is whether Autotune is used in the song as an obvious effect, or to hide the fact that the singer can't sing.
