My guitar amp is custom modded and privately owned by me, does that make it good? I'm just poking fun at the ad/marketing words in the plug description, but it very well could be good and worth buying.

I just tested CLAS and the antress exciter.
Both sounds good for me. I am not sure wthat plug is better.
The BBE plugs costs too much for me at thze moment.

Hi metalifuxx.....I see what you mean....sometimes these are pristine units though and/or are deemed to lend a more musical tone or one that may be sweeter to the ears due to the analogue components/tolerances/non linearities and all that sort of stuff.....although many others will be just as good or maybe even more preferable to those ears...I think UAD, IK and others do their modelling on select owners/studio/designers pieces...IMHO I personally trust their good ears that it will be a good sounding unit.

I guess it is very subjective at the end of the day in a lot of respects...in saying that Dirk from Brainworx is coding and is a top man for nailing/gets very close...he just did the wonderful elysia mpressor.

I will be very tempted myself if it gets close enough.

I got both, the BBE SM and the PSP Mix Pack..

I would say that the PSP pack is a definite buy. When using the saturator on the default or pre-amp settings there is rarely any need for any "excitement". Especially when driven more gently, it sounds smooth as hell. MixTreble does great job when fishing out the lost transients in dull sounding loops etc.

BBE SM does great job on when finalizing tracks or in the master bus. The coloration is very balanced, and doesn't sound too tinny or piercing.

Camel Space also has the soft saturation option, sounds OK.

If you run a bunch of sine waves thru BBE D82 you'll find it doesn't actually add any harmonics, so it's more of a fancy EQ rather than an exciter.. From what I can see it's like a gentle V curve EQ (run some white noise thru it to see the shape) So basically when you use it you're just turning up the volume and removing some mids. Sounds good tho.

PSP get my vote. They do some amazing things with harmonics.

Routing your track to a send with good distortion that's gently high passed gives you the most control (well I think so anyways).

Ah, c'mon... what BBE actually is doing, is to strengthen the (already present) harmonics.
You simply (e.g.) can't force a harmonic exciter to push harmonics,
which basically ain't there.

Let us not discuss impossible things around here.

Let's keep it real. There still ain't no magical plugins out there.

(Well, maybe some,.. but still no plugins, which can do real magical things...)

BBE Sonic Maximizer is not an exciter.
It aligns harmonics through a phase shift for more punch and clarity.
The best exciter plugin is iZotope Alloy.
It's a lot more than just an exciter, and it's VST3, too.

all of loser's plugins are surprisingly good, IMHO. really dig the transient shaper.
