Good exciter plug?

BBE Sonic Maximizer is not an exciter.
It aligns harmonics through a phase shift for more punch and clarity.
The best exciter plugin is iZotope Alloy.
It's a lot more than just an exciter, and it's VST3, too.
Yep, I like and use Alloy, too.
But you seriously do not want to compare this to BBE, do you?
Ok, lets basically skip the detailed talk. This statement, already says it all...

No, I'm not comparing Alloy to BBE.
Because Alloy is an exciter, and BBE is not.

No, it isn't.
I've worked with hardware BBE Sonic Maximizers for over a decade.
It is an unique process which corrects harmonic phase alignment.
Harmonic exciters create harmonic distortion. BBE corrects it.

I just tried it again, and the Exciter of MixTreble is sadly the opposite of smooth. Even with Drive at 0% it still sounds like ugly distortion and not like smooth excitement.Ghettopanda wrote:I would say that the PSP pack is a definite buy. When using the saturator on the default or pre-amp settings there is rarely any need for any "excitement". Especially when driven more gently, it sounds smooth as hell. MixTreble does great job when fishing out the lost transients in dull sounding loops etc.
I really love most of the PSP Plugins (especially MasterComp, Xenon, MixSaturator and 84), but the exciter in MixTreble is totally useless to me.
A real exciter does exactly that:rodgetkfp wrote:You simply (e.g.) can't force a harmonic exciter to push harmonics,
which basically ain't there.
Let us not discuss impossible things around here.
It generates harmonics!
That's the actual benefit of an exciter ... it can fill holes, which you couldn't fill with EQing.

"No, it isn't.

Oh yes, it is. I've worked with BBE since the beginning
(almost, day one of their hardware S.-M.- Maximizer release)
And let me tell ya, it is exciting my sound.
The issue of handling (already existing) harmonics, got mentioned already.
Just like I mentioned, the BBE sm can't "excite" harmonics, which ain't there.
But it truly is an exciter.

"Harmonic exciters create harmonic distortion"
I forgot to reply on this statement.
Not necessarily, harmonic distortion. Maybe we should rather call it colouring.
But that's exactly what the BBE does.

I was talking about the MixSaturator, not Treble.. I usually leave it out also. The "exciter" also adds width, but it doesn't too that either very well. PSP should just dump that option or improve it.Nokenoku wrote:I just tried it again, and the Exciter of MixTreble is sadly the opposite of smooth. because you aren't of that kind, obviously...Download SOphist wrote:all of loser's plugins are surprisingly good, IM(H)O. really dig the transient shaper.Nokenoku wrote:Thanks for the tip Alex!

Even, if it is new to you.
Is anybody else as confused by this exchange as I am? It seems "rodgetkfp" is flip-flopping on the issues.

Actually, he just messed up a quote block; that's what Redshift said.futurefields wrote:So here "rodgetkfp" says BBE is not an exciter.rodgetkfp wrote:BBE Sonic Maximizer is not an exciter.

It appears you are correct.
