Those Mokafix piano samples sound something like Pianoteq 1. So - bad.

Well THANK GOD Pianoteq isn't tweakable and doesn't include a spectral harmonic editor, and all the more so with the Pro version, PER KEY adjustable.

If that doesn't sound like a piano string, I don't know what does.

Unfortunately, a virtual piano built with this technology would totally destroy just about any CPU, even today's CPUs would be crushed by a virtual paino built from this extremely (and I mean extremely) sophisticated string modelling.

Okay for guitars and basses, because they only have 4,5,6, maybe 7 strings. But for a piano, that's well over 200 strings (piano notes have more than 1 string each).

Maybe in a few year's time when computers are up to the task, we'll see these highly sophisticated models being used in very large numbers for say, piano, harp, etc.

Mokafix is very skilled at PM.

So are Pianoteq guys, what's your point?

BTW, of all those examples on Workshop page, the bass guitar striked me the most. Guitars are great when sliding, but the basic attack timbre lacks some high end sparkle, IMHO.

It certainly is compared to your typical sample libraries, that's for sure. Samples fail without exception when trying to perform detailed playing gestures at any pace generally.

Therefore samples are not good for anything except maybe nonpitched and tuned percussion.

Things like sax, guitar, violin, etc, really need something else. Samplemodeling are doing a great job with the trumpets and saxes, but they need to work on solo bowed strings.

Has anyone tried the Roland V-Piano?
I believe it has to be better sounding than any Piano plugin.

It has its weaknesses, some are even more obvious than those Pianoteq has. Plus it's not as tweakable as Pianoteq. Plus it's too expensive.

Oooh, thanks for pointing me in their direction. Hadn't heard of them before, their free Glue Reeds synth sounds interesting, cool demo. Think I'll grab that one now!
