What, all of them? So presumably you've tried every single one (even though he releases "4 a month")?rodgetkfp wrote:I simply don't like the sound of Antress plugins

But just to keep it fair,
no, I've not tested every single plugin
(...you know, the every month releasing 4 plugins issue)
just to keep it serious like y'all did...
(personally, I haven't tested or tried out the releases of the last couple of months)
there was a point, where I tested those Antress plugins in detail. But after doing exactly that, I decided to not even try those new releases (ever) again.
So, just to keep it fair... Damn, I don't wanna waste my time again.

This game is not only in theory about knowledge and skills, and of course
the most important thing, the result.

Not sure what the deal is here, I've read about pretty serious AEs using Antress plugins for odds and ends (I recall distinctly something about the engineer on the last Seal album using one for "warming the vocals"). He's making freeware, it's not like you're getting ripped off if you find out that they're just not for you - I don't understand the vitriol directed toward the developer, in the slightest.
In fact your last post is so over the top and dripping with hateful venom that I find myself wondering if Antress killed your dog or something.

Yes, of course. There are some rumors flying around the net. I've heard about those things ( or situations, as well as some "Sound on Sound" guys using simply, and only (!) Antress plugins for -Mix Rescue-... with a result, which is absolutely ok.
(but just in case you didn't know already, my (personal) meaning ain't the holy grail of personal oppinions..
It's just my personal experience and meaning.
Not saying, that it is right or wrong.

I agree...in fact, I don't see this kind of bashing with any other developer. He must be on the right trackAgreed wrote:In fact your last post is so over the top and dripping with hateful venom that I find myself wondering if Antress killed your dog or something.

In your posts here at KVR, why do you keep referring to music as the "game"? It's creepy. Like used car salesman creepy. Like cult member creepy.rodgetkfp wrote:This game is not only in theory about knowledge and skills, and of course (the most important thing, the result).
Anyway, thanks Antress.

that's silly: if you hear the same result, or something approaching, what's the deal with those 0.5db?? it's not the same setting? ok. it's not the same GR? right. but if your ear doesn't make any difference, or a so subtle difference you cannot say who is who, what's the point?? you use compressor for musical result, not for scientific measurements... otherwise you won't use a fairchildWell, this is completely unserious from the beginning.
If we have (no.) A processed by (e.g.) 5,2dB of gain reduction,
and (no.) B processed by (e.g.) 5,7dB of gain reduction,
then you can't seriously compare them.

I like "A" better because of the transient response.
And I like how Antress doesn't take things too seriously.
I'm not familiar with both plugins, mostly use UAD and outboard compressors.
All the best,
Jochen

could be that the engineer who uses Antress' plugins lured away rodgetkfp customers from him and that's y he's mad now?
it's commendable that he wants everybody to only work with quality stuff, but there's freedom of choice after all
as far as the test, can't prefer one over the other, they sound a bit different from one another, but not better or worse, what i did prefer is the original over the compressed

Neither have I. I don't have time, TBH - there are quite a lot of them (I'm not sure it's really "4 a month" BTW; that sounds like an exaggeration to me. Of course I could be wrong...)rodgetkfp wrote:no, I've not tested every single plugin
The ones I have tested suggest his output can be uneven: some of them are definitely better than others [IMHO]. (This is hardly a major criticism, though. I mean, so what if his output is uneven? I'd suggest it's true of quite a few other devs, too. Perhaps it's inevitable if you're as prolific as Antress is). I tried his recent LA-2A clone ("Last Angel", I think; it's the one with the red GUI) on a bass guitar track the other day and got good results with it. But I've never been particularly impressed by any of his 'verbs, for instance.
...Yet you (apparently) still feel confident making sweeping statements about them. Hmmmm...rodgetkfp wrote:(personally, I haven't tested or tried out the releases of the last couple of months)
Can this really be true? Are you seriously suggesting you turn clients away just because they use Antress's plugs? (Or have I misunderstood your meaning?) I find that hard to believe, TBH. It seems pretty extraordinary.rodgetkfp wrote:We automatically exclude every customer, when they do (claim to) seriously use Antress plugins
No offence, but reading this kind of thing makes me seriously question the attitudes of some people...

My experience with compressors has been that settings from one very rarely translate exactly to another, even if the two comps share a similar design. Sure, you can use similar settings and get similar results from two different compressors...but setting exactly the same ratio, attack, release, threshold (etc.) to the nearest 2 significant figures (or whatever) and getting exactly the same result? Really? I've never had much success trying to do that.
The whole point of the exercise was to demonstrate how close the results were, how you could get very similar sounds from the two compressors. So setting the comps by ear - i.e. by the results they gave - was surely the only way of doing it.

Haha,
for me it is obvious that Antress annoys many of the UAD-owners, Powercore-owners and Plugin buyers.
They just can't bear the possibility that freeware plugins can cope with
those high priced packages. They just can't bear that idea!
Nothing against UAD and hi-priced plugins. These plugins don't become worse or degrade just because of the new antress plugins.
What changes is: The genuis Antress made such good plugins available for
everybody - even for the pour student. I call that democratic and social. I think it is for the art of music, which should not be dependant on commercial power!
Thank You, Antress!
Go on with your marvellous work!
