i fixed some pretty bad bugs and re-uploaded. also updated the description a little bit to explain what the controls do.

it still sounds horrible.

i was going to include some digital photos of noses to use as waveforms but didn't have time...

anyway, i'm hoping for last place or better.

have fun!

I like it, I'm googling some pictures for it. The only drawback is its basically a sampler, and low notes play slow, high play fast.

When I tried Dragged the dll into eXT1.41 it crashed. Once I placed it into my VST folder it loaded properly.

that's true. after the contest is over i'll probably add more features to make it more interesting.

oh well... i only started it a day before the deadline. everything else i'm working on is way too boring.

i'm going to release a new version of this once the contest is over, with more features. they'll be secret for now (not to influence voting), but feel free to make suggestions.

i think it's a real break-through to get this sort of thing working at all,it would be interesting to know more details of what it is actually doing.
i love coagula and victors image2audio stuff, but all standalones oc.
good times.:)

it takes each pixel of the image, starting at the top-left, and uses its brightness as the sample value of a 65536-sample waveform. black is full negative, white is full positive. there's a DC offset filter before the output.

it's much simpler than other image synths that do inverse fft... with my method it's very difficult to make an image that actually sounds good.

i wanted it to be similar to opening an image file as raw sample data in Cool Edit.
