I'm trying to get my old band from the 70's together again for next month's song. It was called : "Fish and the Chips".
Fish is the female singer and the Chips went on afterwards as a dance group called something like Chippendales...

No Xmas song theme ?... (why then have I saved all those Xmas samples 'n loops during the past year ?!!! )

Also Scoops, you initially said next month would be a genre theme, now its "70's style songs about fish"? WTF?

The theme only seems to work if it can engender endless Tower of Babel debates about what it means, doesn't mean and more importantly who's broken the rules by trying to shoe-horn some bizarre work of art into its narrow confines.

@Farluker - Most of the stickies get posted to on a regular basis, save 1. I'll sned a PM off the originator to see if it would be ok to remove it.

@vespers75 - I believe I've stuck to my original statement. If you were looking for me to cite a specific genre, well, that was maybe my original intention, but when "fish" got selected, I decided to keep the genres open to the 70's just to make it a bit easier for the entrants.

@rp314 - More importantly, all the entrants here know what they are doing! I gotta say that for quite some time now, everybody has stuck to the theme rather well. Yes sometimes it is a thinly veiled free for all, but it keeps it interesting. But to the reference that I know what I'm doing is, well ..... I consider myself to be playing the role of Nurse Ratched, or maybe at times Randall Patrick McMurphy.

@Max - While I lived but 45 minutes from Chicago, I never actually lived in Illinois. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life. I'm about an hour and a half outta Chicago now thoough. As far as the Christmas tunes, well, I gave it a thought, but we did that last year. Maybe next year.

Perhaps, but more importantly to get the real essence of this "work" it helps to be well acquainted with the relationship between John Cage, Joyce's Finnegans Wake and the music of Dickie Peterson.

Hey, BTW Scoops, what a funny way of measuring distance with time.
Could this mean you can maintain your speed where you live.
In Antwerp around peak hour, one and a half hour would mean : 2 blocks.
While over here you'd be 2 villages and 700 curves further.

In both examples a car was used; how do you move from A to B in your one and a half hour example ?

A good advice : take yer car when a Canario tells you something is about a stone's throw away. IMO, this people is banned for life from the Olympics for throwing stuff absolutely too far !

I like the opening; the, 'minor triads a minor third apart.' This song is brutal. It's got a mix like college radio/indy stuff; which adds to its raw appeal.

I think in intro triads were perfect fourths apart but they were indeed minor triads Yeah I left mix intentionally quite lo-fi because I generally like more "raw" metal bands than those bands whose sound is very polished.

@mtilli: Would you post lyrics? (Not a requirement, I'd just like to read them.)

Actually I prefer not to They are just some snippets which are related to title and not something to write home about.

Your track was more industrial than I expected. There certainly was the sense that someone was smashing a bass guitar through their rig. Nice combination of sounds.

Death: Oct. 12, 2009, Germany

Rock Musician. Bass player and lead vocalist with the music group Blue Cheer. Along with Leigh Stephens and Paul Whaley, he formed the San Francisco-based band during the late-1960s. They enjoyed commercial success, when their edgy version of Eddie Cochran's hit "Summertime Blues" reached number fourteen on the pop charts in March 1968. Between 1968 and 1971, they released six albums which included "Vincebus Eruptum" (1968), "Blue Cheer" (1969) and "New! Improved! Blue Cheer" (1970). Blue Cheer and other groups of that time which included Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly became the forerunners of the hard rock and heavy metal music genre. After they disbanded during the early-1970's, Peterson continued his music career with other groups and as a solo artist. He remained an active performer until his death from cancer. Or possibly surviving for a month on 1970s fish.

If Dickie's up there looking down on us right about now, I wonder what would be more of a surprise to him: the way his passing has been largely ignored by many whose path he helped to pave, or the rather sophomoric tributes some of us have proffered in his memory. I certainly hope it's not the latter!

I'm stunned, Eric Idle is Eminem preincarnated! This was a very nostalgic trip down the british plumbing.

Always enjoy a bit of Python. I assume it wasn't made to irritate, but as far as anger goes, it seems "miffed" at the very most.

Psy-T - Shut Up -> Love Python. That was definitely one of Eric Idle's most annoying characters. Music is nice and spacy, a pleasant contrast to the vocal sample.

Psy-T - Shut Up - One day, the Orb get up and realise they are old(er). This is that moment.

Shut Up: This is a top-flight studio production. The drums and synths are really happening. The diatribe is at least mildly interesting (brings back memories of (USA) 'Public Broadcasting System' programming from 35 years ago or thereabouts). This could be extended into a long piece, with some lyrics written and sung for it; and some instrumental solo(s).

Psy-T - Shut Up
The tension does build musically. Huh. I'd forgotten that since the first listen. Annoying in that I think I'd enjoy it without the Python.
